The management of University of Osun (UNIOSUN) Teaching Hospital commends the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke for approving hazard allowance for health workers in all categories.

The Chief Medical Director of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Prof. Peter Babatunde Olaitan gave the commendation while featuring on a monthly programme of Veteran Journalists held on Wednesday, November 15, in Osogbo, the state capital.

He said the new approval is at par with what the federal health workers earn, as this has forestalled those in the state service who are making effort to move to join federal hospitals.

He expressed optimism that the Senator Ademola Adeleke government is breathing life into the primary health care in Osun State.

"About the drugs in primary health care, this is one of the things the current government is doing. In the last 2 – 3 months, the current government sent people around all the primary health care facilities in the state. Among the objectives are what we have on ground and how can we improve it. This government is going to do much better than what we currently have. "

He added that the teaching hospital system leaves no stone unturned in probing any perceived act of negligence.

In his words, "negligence. How do we deal with negligence? Teaching hospital has a mechanism of checks and balances. Every death that happens in the teaching hospital is examined. It is discussed. How did it happen. How did this fellow die? Is there something we could have done that we didn’t do? And if there are fault or perceived act of negligence on the part of the medical personnel, such get disciplined. We don’t say ‘oh no, leave him, let him be.’ That is the difference between teaching hospitals and general or private hospital. So, the best place to seek medical care from is a teaching hospital. "

It would be recalled that in May 2023, Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the residency training allowance for medical personnel in an apparent move to forestall the strike by the Association of Resident Doctors in Osun State University Teaching Hospital.

On Imole Free medical outreach, Prof Olaitan explained that what the Governor is doing is unprecedented, noting that over fifty thousand (50,000) people who are suffering from one ailment or the other benefitted from the gesture.

He stated that all the expenses incurred during the free Medical outreach were shouldered by the state government, against the insinuations that some international donors donated money to assist the state government. He noted "I want to say it unequivocally that all the expenses incurred during the medical outreach were paid by the state government. No money received from international donors.

He said further, "Though, we need the international bodies to join hands with His Excellency to provide good healthcare for our people. We still have many people suffering from various ailments."
