The registration requirements for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) were raised on Monday, December 18, 2023, by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). It was declared that the new JAMB fee would be greater than those of the previous year to help cover the growing expenses associated with conducting the exam and preserving its excellence. According to JAMB, the increase in the JAMB fee was required to guarantee that every applicant would have a smooth and effective examination procedure.


The examination board announced the increase in the JAMB fee on their X handle along with the registration for the 2024 UTME/Direct Entry Exam.

Additionally, JAMB underlined that the higher costs will allow them to increase the technical innovations and security measures used throughout the examination, thus guaranteeing a fair and accurate assessment of candidates’ intellectual ability. The board gave parents and students the reassurance that they are dedicated to giving all prospective university students equal chances, even with the rise in fees.

The JAMB Exam Board said, “This is to inform all prospective 2024 UTME/DE candidates that the sale of application forms will commence on Monday, January 15, 2024, while the creation of profiles for registration has officially started.”

In order to provide applicants with a seamless experience, the board further underlined that they had taken action to expedite and improve the registration process. To further assist applicants with any questions or issues they may have during the registration and application process, they have also established a dedicated hotline and support system.

The registration cost was increased on Monday, December 17, 2023, to “₦6,200 for UTME registration without the mock examination and ₦7,700 for UTME registration inclusive of a mock examination.” Application materials for overseas candidates are sold for $30.

Prior to the increase, the form cost ₦5,700 if it didn’t include a mock exam and ₦6,700 if it did.

JAMB fixed Thursday, March 28, 2024, as the deadline for the 2024 DE application. Candidates are encouraged to register and complete their applications before the deadline to avoid any last-minute issues. It is important for candidates to carefully review the registration requirements and guidelines provided by JAMB to ensure a smooth application process.
