Residents of Maitama, a high-class area in Abuja, Nigeria, have expressed concerns over an alleged explosion that occurred in the vicinity.

According to witnesses, a loud sound was heard coming from a nearby dump site, resulting in injuries to two individuals.

However, some residents have dismissed the claims of an explosion, suggesting that the sound may have been caused by a burning dump site or a gas leakage. As of now, the police have not released an official statement regarding the incident.

Which empty cylinder? That must have been a big fat lie. Those guys that work as field workers of waste management agencies always separate recyclable wastes such as metals, cartons etc for their own personal sales.

In Ghana there is a dump site that has been burning for years. In the US there have been dump sites with tyres that burnt for weeks
It is not unique to Nigeria. Your organic waste turns into methane gas as it decomposes. That Sweet smell that you perceive when you go past waste dump sites is methane. Trapped methane will explode under the right conditions.
