Okay, but if their stance against unhealthy or unwholesome practices doesn't cover the murder, dismemberment and decapitation of innocent human beings then they are just playing 1 Like |

Traditional medicine if properly regulated and modernised has the potential to bring worthwhile benefits to the population. The importance of natural compounds as candidates for innovative drugs is gaining traction even in the scientific sphere cos the posses a chemical diversity unmatched by any synthetic chemical collection. The can posses bi and tri dimensional complex structures yet be capable of being absorbed and metabolised by the body. Reputable work by time honoured traditional practitioners can serve as a blue print for modern herbal drugs. Take the case of Niprisan, an innovative medicine for Sickle Cell anemia that was developed in Nigeria from the blue print of traditional doctors. Scientists at the National Pharmaceutical Institute for Research pieced together pepper seeds, clove flower buds, caprium stem and sorghum leaves, ingredients used by Traditional doctors to treat Sickle Cell across Nigeria. Consequently they were able to fine tune these ingredients into a standardised effective and safe herbal drug for Sickle Cell Disease |

Very interesting people are calling the traditional birth attendants Agbo sellers loool. These people have a board as we can see here and sometimes get trained by the Lagos state govt, there are those licensed to practice, the traditional birth attendants also undergo trainings, they do antenatal, take deliveries, they even request for scan / blood test and they even refer to the hospital . Even me sef was shocked. I always wondered why there are still traditional birth attendants in this period but then realized a large number of people still patronize them surprisingly instead of going to a health center so it makes sense to train them and license them. 2 Likes |

Traditional Birth Attendants might sound like a primitive practice in 2024 but across the globe the play a vital role especially in rural settings where many can't afford or have access to modern healthcare services. Many Traditional Birth Attendants, often herbalists are knowledgeable on the basics of modern healthcare and childbirth. At such their patients in most cases get to benefit from time honoured herbs that reduces the burden of pregnancy and childbirth |
