Welcome to Afromnia. Today, where we bring you the 10 top movies in the 1990s. They were bangers in their days and lots of them are beginning to get remakes.

1. "Living in Bondage" (1992) Directed by Chris Obi Rapu and, written by Kenneth Nnebue and Okechukwu Ogunjiofor this movie is considered a pioneer of Nollywood and is often credited with kickstarting the modern Nigerian film industry. It tells the story of a man who makes a pact with a cult in order to achieve wealth and success, only to face the consequences of his actions. "Living in Bondage" was a major success, becoming a cult classic and setting the foundation for Nollywood's growth in the 1990s.
2. Nneka the Pretty Serpent is a two-part 1994 Nigerian horror drama film directed and written by Zeb Ejiro and produced by Okechukwu Ogunjiofor. It is regarded as the Nollywood movie that started the trend of storylines involving demon-possessed subjects who are cleansed by pastors
3. "Owo Blow" (1995) - Directed by Tade Ogidan and written by Wale Ogunyemi, this comedy-drama follows the story of a young man, Dehinde, played by Femi Adebayo, who gets involved in fraud to make quick money. However, his actions have consequences, and he learns valuable life lessons along the way. "Owo Blow" was a critical and commercial success, earning accolades for its engaging story and stellar performances.
4. "Sango" (1997) - Directed by Obafemi Lasode, "Sango" is a historical drama that tells the story of the legendary Yoruba deity, Sango, who is known as the god of thunder and lightning. The movie explores the myth and folklore surrounding Sango's life and reign, and features spectacular visuals and performances.
5. "Out of Bounds" (1997) - Directed by Tade Ogidan, this movie is a crime thriller that follows the story of Pastor Voke's star is on the rise and his congregation is growing. But success brings him face to face with temptation. This movie got to be first Nollywood movie to have soundtrack album.
6. "Diamond Ring" (1998) – Written and directed by Tade Ogidan, Diamond Ring follows the story of conflict between the spirit of Mrs. Gladys and members of Chidi's cult group, XG. In a bid to display his fitness for a life in the secret cult, Chidi, a freshman in the university and the only child of his parents; Chief and Mrs. Ijeoma Dike steals a diamond ring from Mrs. Gladys' corpse. The spirit of Mrs. Gladys in turn haunts Chidi and his friends. The members of the cult begin to die successively. Chidi is struck by a peculiar sickness which could not be treated by orthodox medicine. The journey to find his healing culminates in the return of the diamond ring to Mrs. Gladys' corpse.
7. "Saworoide" (1999) – Written and directed by Tunde Kelani, "Saworoide" is a satirical drama that takes a critical look at the politics and corruption in a fictional Nigerian town. he film is about a town called Jogbo. The story starts when a new king ascends to the throne. However, Oba Lapite (brilliantly played by Kola Oyewo) skips the oath of office. Soon, Oba Lapite legitimizes corruption as he enjoys the spoils of his position. His chiefs also partake in this and live lavishly.
8. "Igodo" (1999) - Directed by Andy Amenechi and Don Pedro Obaseki., this epic adventure movie tells the story of a group of warriors who embark on a dangerous quest to retrieve a stolen crown that holds the fate of their kingdom. Igodo joins this quest to the evil forest.
9. Glamour Girls (1994) A tale of ambition, love, and betrayal in Lagos. Part I follows Sandra's journey from a struggling call girl to choosing love over wealth, while Jane faces deception in her marriage. Part II reveals the dark side of prostitution in Italy, exposing the exploitation of young girls.
