In Nigeria, life's challenges are so overwhelming that even when lemons are thrown at you, you might not notice them.

Adebisi had always dreamt of being a street photographer professionally, but the country's hardships forced her to find other ways to make ends meet

She is the only child of her mother, who everyone lovingly refers to as Mama Bisi.
She singlehandedly raised her daughter.

This was her third effort at the yearly GeegPay photography competition. Every year, amateur and professional photographers from all around the nation compete in this annual photography competition to display their skills.

She had prepared thoroughly this year, studying what previous champions had done and how they had found inspiration for the perfect photo.

Adebisi enjoyed assisting her mother in the famed ikorodu garage, with selling kpomo (cow hides). During weekends.

When she was less busy, she generally shot pictures of different individuals, from the passengers hurrying to enter the bus to the local youngsters screaming different places the bus goes to, to the traffic officers etc.

The big day had arrived, and she had captured a beautiful image of her mother smiling, which she thought was ideal...

She lost the competition, which affected her particularly hard because she finished fourth, missing out on the award for the top three spots.

Adebisi dream of being a photographer almost died with the loss but she persevered, she had a tough upbringing growing up without a father and she normally draws inspiration from her mom and what she had been through

She opted to participate in an online street photography competition hosted by Leica 6*7 Gallery Warsaw. The competition is open and free for all street photographers worldwide, with a maximum of five images.

Adebisi finished in second place, falling short behind Brazilian wildlife photographer Luis Moreal.

This boosted her Instagram account from 300 subscribers to 10k in a couple of days with a $5,000 cash gift.
