Nigeria: FG, Estate Developers Sign Housing Deal

Federal Government yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Development Lease Agreement with Burgamnn Nigeria Limited and other estate firms, for the delivery of 1,729 housing units in six states across the country.

The Federal Government yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Development Lease Agreement with 11 estate firms, for the delivery of 1,729 housing units in six states across the country.
In the MoU, government agreed to provide a total of 127.359 hectares of land in Osun, Adamawa, Ondo, Niger, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Abuja, to enable the companies roll-out the housing projects.
The estate firms involved in the deal include, Opinior Engineering Company Limited, Phetek Nigeria Limited, Staklin Invest Limited and Hamrook Holding Limited in ( Abere, Ede, Osun State), Newto, Tonkey Projects Limited (Adamawa), Nigeria Airforce Foundation Gte Limited (FCT) and Medaville Building Construction Limited (Ondo State).
Others are Chagason International Limited (Adamawa State), BNTI Limited (Niger State), Safe Forte Property Development Limited and Burgmann Nigeria Limited (Ogun State).
Most of the housing projects have completion period of one year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Works, Housing and Urban Development, D. Hassan Muhammad Lawal, described as historic, the engagement of private sector concerns to participate in the implementation of government's mass housing programme under the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model.
He said yesterday's agreement brings to 80, the number of such partnership MoUs that had been signed by the Federal Government since introduction of the PPP programme in the Ministry.
"Today's event is a demonstration of the Federal Government's commitment to the Public-Private-Partnership arrangement for provision of affordable housing in Nigeria, through establishing a purposeful collaboration between the Public and Private sectors towards providing housing for Nigerians," Lawal said.
