The Nigerian Senate has approved the Student Loan (Access to Higher Education) Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024.

This legislative milestone was achieved following the consideration of the report presented by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND.

Last week Thursday, the Senate had previously passed the Bill for a second reading.

Sponsored by Bamidele Opeyemi, the Senate leader, among others, the Bill aims to establish the Nigeria Education Loan Fund as a corporate body tasked with managing and investing funds to provide loans for higher education, vocational training, and skills acquisition. The next step involves transmitting the Bill to President Bola Tinubu for his assent.
