Jn. 17:3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

Accurate knowledge of Jesus Christ is very crucial in order for one to enter divine life. Spiritual progress among Christians has been greatly hampered by inaccurate understanding of who Jesus Christ is and what God sent him to do for mankind.

What the Bible says about Jesus Christ

Ro. 5:14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come.

Ro. 5:17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

Lk. 3:38 the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Adam was a pattern of Jesus. In fact, Jesus is a man, but not an ordinary man. Jesus is an Adam, the beginning of a new human race, without father. Without clearly understanding the relationship between Jesus and Adam, one cannot fully know Jesus Christ. Notice in Lk. 3:38 that Adam is also referred to as the son of God, just like Jesus.

He. 2:6 But there is a place where someone has testified: “What is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?
He. 2:7 You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honour
He. 2:8 and put everything under his feet.” [Psalm 8:4-6] In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him.
He. 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honour because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.

God made the original Adam a little lower than angels and put everything under his feet. Due to the fall of man, we presently do not see everything under the feet of man. God also made the new Adam, Jesus, a little lower than angels and put everything under his feet. Jesus Christ rose to be sitting on the throne with God. Hebrews chapter 2 makes it clear that Jesus is a man. God brought a new man into the world to redeem the old man.

Why does the old man need redemption?

Ph. 2:5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Ph. 2:6 Who, being in very nature [Or in the form of] God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
Ph. 2:7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

God made the original Adam in His likeness by breathing into him the Holy Spirit (Ge. 2:7). Satan lied to Adam that he could pull himself up to the level of God by discarding the commandment of God and following the way of Satan. Adam attempted to grasp equality with God as Satan suggested to him. The result was the fall of man; instead of rising to the level of God, man fell. Satan also tempted Jesus to disregard the commandments of God and follow Satan’s ways (Mt. 4:3-10), but Jesus did not consider equality with God as something to be grasped through disobedience. Jesus rather made himself a servant to words of God. The old man required redemption from the fall so that he could rise again.

He. 10:5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me.

When it was God’s time for the Holy Spirit (Christ or the Anointing) to dwell in man (the world), no descendant of the original Adam was qualified to host the Holy Spirit and sacrifice and offering could not remedy the situation. The only way for the Holy Spirit to dwell in mankind again was for God to prepare a new man (Adam) for the Holy Spirit. God prepared a new man in the womb of Virgin Mary through His powerful arm, the Holy Spirit. The new man started as a fetus in the womb of Virgin Mary and was eventually delivered as a baby boy.

Lk. 2:52 And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men.

Mt. 3:16 As soon as Jesus was baptised, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.
Mt. 3:17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Is. 53:1 Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

After Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, the Holy Spirit dwelt in him. He became a living soul, a soul that could grow towards the spiritual level of God. (See Ge. 2:7.) At this point, the new Adam was exactly in the state in which the original Adam was in Ge. 2:7. Satan tempted the new Adam exactly the way he tempted the original Adam. The outcome of the two temptations determined the ultimate destinies of the two Adams.
