A Boston school has reportedly suspended a nine-year-old boy for intimate harassment, after he called a teacher "cute".

A substitute teacher overhead Emanyea Lockett make the comment to a fellow classmate, according to WSOC TV.

The event was reported to school officials who suspended the boy for two days, the station claims.

Emanyea's mother told WSOC TV she received a phone call from the school's principal, who said her son's behaviour was deemed to be intimate harassment.

"It's not like he went up to the woman and tried to grab her or touch her in a intimate way," Ms Lockett said. "So why would he be suspended for two days?"
A spokesman for Boston public schools says the college is carrying out an investigation into the incident.
