hey pple,
does anyone know if ders a way to access the registry on a slaved drive?
i.e. if i slave my hard drive to another person's hard drive will i be able to view/edit my registry on my friends pc?

cos in my wisdom (or lack thereof!)i edited the permissions for the winlogon key and denied most users write and read access and after that the pc refused to boot(twasn't even my pc it was the office pc)i tried using the os cd to repair but that didn't work,
reason i was doing it was to see if i could stop one of them irritating viruses from editing userinit,winlogon and explorer(plus sometimes i just love roaming around in the registry, )and i ended up doing more than my power, twas a really scary period,

P.S. if u dont understand wot i typed above u prolly cant help me so shut up k, ?
also its done so i dont need anyone telling me i shouldn't be messing with the registry,

Man, I have a CD that lets u access ur registry on any OS wn ur PC is just booting up, It's a boot CD, an awesome boot cd I must say, U get to do anything with the registry at start up.

He's right, HirenBoot CD is a cool tool everyone should have.

But if its just the registry you need to edit on the slave drive, then try this:

- FIRSTLY, BACKUP THE REGISTRY ON THE HOST MACHINE. So that you can roll-back incase something goes awfully wrong.
- With the slaved drive connected, start up "regedit" on the host machine.
- Highlight the "HKLM"node
- Go to "File" and selecet "Load Hive".
- In the window that opens, browser to "%root drive%\system32\config" on the slave drive.
- Depending on the registry key you want to access, select one of the following files
         - System
         - Security
         - Software
         - SAM

- If you are going to open any of the files, if would ask for a key name. Enter a name different from the existing ones in the root of the registry. (Eg. Shaftware for the Software file. . .get the drift?)

- When the selected hive data opens up, go on and edit to your heart's content. 
- When you are done, select the loaded hive on the root of the registry editor and go back to "File" and choose "Unload Hive". At this point, you have successfully edited and saved the slave drive's registry entries.
- You can repeat the same procedure for the other files (SAM, SYSTEM e.t.c)
