Can I Learn Esan? by MaryEsan: 8:43pm On Jan 13, 2012
Hey Everyone. I was born in London but my family originates from Nigeria. Edo State, Ekpoma.
I have been wanting to learn my language, esan, for some time but my mum won't teach me and she says she hardly speaks the language
which is quite un true because she can carry out conversations in the language.
I think that it is right that i get to learn the language but I can't seem to find anything on the internet that can help me.
I know basic phrases that my mum taught me like how are you and I'm fine. But other than that, I can't understand anything.
Please help.

My dad isn't Esan.
And my mum doesn't teach me it because she says that she doesn't really speak the language.

Hello greetings, am also from Igueben, my mom is from Ekpoma, but i speak my mum's version of Esan. The Igueben dialect is a bit conc. for me but i understand it very well. Am from Uhe in Igueben, where are you from, tho i am more Yoruba than Esan now, lived all my life in Southwest, and i married a half-yoruba, half-ibo girl who grew up in Kano. You should see the kind of music we played in my wedding, it was a blend of all cultures.

Good evening fellow nairalanders. Pardon me for having to deviate from the topic...please I'd like to solicit your support on behalf of one of my protégés. I am a teacher.
Her name is Ayeni Olohije from Edo state. She is contesting for a scholarship position at the Royal Arts Academy courtesy Emem Isong. She needs as many votes as she can get right now. The contest is a very stiff one. So please help her to take a step closer to her dream of being a movie director by following her unique link below and vote for her. You are free to also drop a comment. I assure you, your vote is not wasted. Thank you and God bless you. Here is her link;

Is ESAN the same as Ishan?

'Ishan' is an Anglicized form of 'Esan', the result of colonial Britain's inability to properly pronounce the name of this ethnic group. Ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esan_people
