Arjen Robben is set to be left on the bench once again tomorrow as Bayern Munich prepare to host Kaiserslautern without their out-of-sorts Dutch winger.

Robben has been made the scapegoat for Bayern's dip in form in the Bundesliga since the turn of the year with just four points out of a possible nine seeing them fall two points adrift of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table.

As a result, Robben was dropped for the midweek DFB-Pokal cup quarter-final tie with Stuttgart.

The rousing performance in the 2-0 win should convince Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes to name the same team tomorrow, albeit with one change since Bastian Schweinsteiger is out injured.

However, David Alaba and not Robben should take Schweinsteiger's place.

"I had to change something,'' said Heynckes on Wednesday. "It was not a decision against Arjen, but rather one for a more compact midfielder.

"Sure it is not easy to swallow.''

Bayern's director of sport Christian Nerlinger, who was busy buying another rival for Robben's place in Xherdan Shaqiri this week, said that Robben may have to get used to keeping the bench warm.

"It is normal that top quality players sit on the bench when everybody is fit,'' he said. "The players have just got to come to terms with that.''

The expression on Robben's face as he left the Mercedes-Benz Arena on Wednesday said more than any words could have done, though.

"It is tough and obviously he is not happy,'' said Bayern captain Philipp Lahm.

Lahm is one of the few Bayern players, together with goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and forwards Franck Ribery and Mario Gomez, who can be certain of their place in the starting XI these days.

Breno is not an option tomorrow, however, after undergoing knee surgery to resolve a recurring problem.

Kaiserslautern coach Marco Kurz says his side will be "prepared for whoever plays for the opponents'' and that they make the journey to Munich with very little pressure, despite currently lying just one point off the bottom of the table.

"We are not under any particular pressure to get a result in Munich,'' said the former 1860 Munich player at the pre-match press conference.

"But we still have high expectations of ourselves. I expect my side to play well enough to be able to get a good result and if we managed that, then anything is possible.

"We have nothing to be afraid of.''

Kurz makes just one change to the squad he named for the Cologne game last Sunday with Ariel Borysiuk out suspended.
