Three students of the University of Port Harcourt have been detained by the police in Choba police station after the students went to the police station(which is close to the school campus) to obtain permission to carry out a peaceful demonstration to protest arbitrary increase in school fees. According to Cool FM news report, the students were detained after the DPO of the station had interrogated them and found out they were not officials of the school‘s Students Union Government(SUG). The students were said to have explained that the SUG leadership had been compromised, hence their unwillingness to protect the interests of the students.
The story was confirmed by the DPO of Choba police station, but he stated that the students were detained because they failed to provide the complete details of their names and registration numbers in the form they filled and submitted to the DPO.
