Greetings guys am a newbie but am interested in investing in TBills. I just came out of Accessbank, Nsukka and they are offering 15% for 108days and 17.2% for 297days. The manager said no primary bidding. Do I look for another bank or keep insisting?

15% for 108days to me is a good deal. They are selling to you from the secondary market and looking back at the last auction where 91days went @14%, you can either take it or visit another bank you have account with and place bid by tomorrow as next auction date should fall between 3rd/4th November. Then you can specify your own bid rate.
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ceelog(m): 5:30pm On Oct 31, 2016
He specifically said they only do for Access and it every Wednesdays. I will ask Diamond bank tomorrow. But what date is the primary market bid?

buchio7:

don't mind them... primary bidding always occurs....it could be that you came after the deadline had lapsed...(had similar issue with Standard Chartered)..

but I still waited till the next auction round and bidded via the primary market.....so my advise is for you to wait for the next auction cycle in 2 weeks (try and go on the Monday b4 the bid as early as 10am)

. . . 400k will be credited to you at Maturity. Your interest has already been paid upfront. It is more likely you went with "bank rate" which is why you got 16.7% which to me is not a bad deal but you should note that the percentage is at per/annum basis and the only way you'll arrive at that 66.616 profit is if you had put in your bid for 365days.

Hello Inze,

Thanks for the info.
I bidded for 182 days .

The CBN will tomorrow conduct a T-bill auction to raise c.N122bn from investors in 91-day, 182-day and 364-day bills. We expect stop rates on tomorrow auction to be in line with previous auction stop rates.

In my own opinion, your bid wll surely go through as long there is the 364days tbills. But I do not think its the best rate, I thing 18% would have been better and will succeed. Just my opinion though.

The auction results would be out later today..

the rates quoted in that your link were spot rates for the Secondary markets on that date... it must have been gotten shortly before the OMO auction on Friday..

cos the rates went higher than that shortly after the OMO auctions

Hi House,

Can you please reconfirm these rates especially the 365days. I have checked everywhere online but could not get the stop rates. I placed a bid of 18.4 for 365days at GTB and my Acct Mgr just called me now that it was not successful and offering me something from the secondary market. Is the CBN STOP rate really 18.5?

The rates are confirmed. My bankers just sent the stop rates to me now!

Tell them that 364 days stop rate is 18.50%

If they doubt you tell them you will complain to CBN /DMO.....That way all the tricks would end!

Bro... ur acct manager/GTB is playing you. the stop rate is 18.50% and the auction didn't even meet up with the amount offered for 364 days (NGN 54.35B) as the amount sold was NGN 46.77B this means that even if you bidded at the stop rate (18.50%) you ought to have been successful. All customers that bidded with us at the stop rate where successful. Note, this is not always common cause it's normally porated and allotments given to all institutions i.e if bidded at this rate (cut-offs). but in this case you bidded below the cut-off and the auction didn't even meet up with the required volume. you guys should look at the table below. amount sold is less than amount offered that means everybody that even bidded at the stop rate could have been accommodated.

Ask you acct manager what happened, maybe your bid wasn't submitted or was altered (increased) your bid rate, also errors can occur

Tenor (Days) - Amount offered -- AMOUNTS SOLD --- Cut-Off (%)
91 - NGN 45.17B -- NGN 22.15B ------------ 14.00
182 - NGN 23.43B -- NGN 18.65B ------------ 17.50
364 - NGN 54.35B -- NGN 46.77B ------------- 18.50

Hello Brothers,

6 Months ago i made my first treasury bills investment with GTB for 1 million naira for 91 days, but GTB gave me 17,000 naira for the duration.
Dont you think i was scammed by GTB,
Investment was in April 2016.
