The Connection:
The Stress response is brought about by the actions of the hormones cortisol, adrenaline and noradrenaline .Hormone cortisol suppresses your immune system and weakens your ability to resist and fight infections. The Hormone Noradrenaline constricts blood vessels, increases your blood pressure levels and causes clot formation. Blood supply to the heart can suddenly be cut off resulting in a heart attack.

The Hormones Noradrenaline, adrenaline, cortisol and other hormones in the body help mobilize fat and glucose from the body and increases blood glucose and cholesterol levels. The blood becomes thicker and the heart has to work much harder to circulate the thicker blood. Chronic distress will slow down healing process which may lead to prolonged erosion of the stomach wall resulting into ulcer.

Worries about events such as interviews and examinations can lead to menstrual irregularities. Persistent high blood sugar levels can occur during prolonged distress leading to diabetes. Back and neck pain, headache and migraine brought about by prolonged muscle tension are less bearable. Chronic distress can also lead to severe anxiety and depression, disabling mental illness, nervous breakdown and suicide.

Stress is infectious. It is stressful living and working with people who are stressed and suffering from stress.
