A DOUBLE EDGE SWORD. (When revenge becomes inevitable).

Banke (not real name) is a very pretty and intelligent young lady now in her mid 20s. Being the first child in the family with four younger ones. Banke lost her dad to armed robbers gun shots while she was only 11years and in her JSS 2. Ever since then, Banke's mum has been the one carrying the responsibilities of the entire household. Banke's father's family never supported her mum in the upkeep of the children because they were never in support of her father marrying her mother due to ethnic and cultural differences.

Banke gained admission into a Federal University in the Northern part of Nigeria to study Accounting at the age of 15. While in school, Banke was not only the youngest in her class but also amongst the top students. This earned her the admiration of lectures and male students and also the envy of most female students.

In school, Banke felt more comfortable studying and relating to male students than her female counterparts. It was for this reason she became very attached to Abdulahi, a fellow course mate of hers but who was a level ahead of her. Banke went to Abdulalhi for tutorials, handouts and assignments.

Abdulahi who was a very popular young man on campus due to his influential father (who was a highly placed politician and consultant to so many federal ministries and parastatals) was very humble, quiet and intelligent student. His peers found it hard to believe that even with his elite background he could still take his academics so seriously.

While in school, Abdulilahi fell in love with Banke and made his intentions known to her on one of the nights while reading in the school library. Banke still being a very young and timid girl made her fears known to Abdulahi that even though she knows she has feelings for him, she felt she was too young to get into a relationship as this would affect her academics and general life if things didn't go well in the relationship.

Abdulahi being a God fearing young man assured Banke that he understood her plight and fears and promised to stick to her in all aspects of her life which included financial and moral support to prove his genuine love to her. Banke thanked him and promised him she will never let him down.

From that day, Abdulahi took full responsibility of Banke's upkeep from her School fees, handouts, feeding and even allowance and sent a whooping N550,000 to Banke's mum to reinvest in her trade and settle some domestic expenses. When Banke's mum made her fears known on why she doesn't want the money because she doesn't know the source of the money, Abdulahi opened up to her that he has informed his parents of Banke's situation and they have promised to assist him in supporting Banke in whatever means possible.

Banke and her mum travelled down on one occasion to Abdulahi's family home to go and thank his parents for their assistance. And it was on this occasion that Abdulahi proposed marriage to Banke who was only 17years then. Banke accepted to marry Abdulahi on the condition that the Nikah and other rites will be done only after she graduated from the university. They both secretly agreed that Banke also should remain a virgin until on their wedding night.

Banke and Abdulahi became the envy of all on campus as they openly displayed their love and affection for all to see.

Soon afterwards, Abdulahi graduated from the univeristy with a 1st class honours in his department and immediately got a scholarship from an International Oil firm to proceed on his Masters to the United States. While his fellow students were going for the mandatory NYSC, Abdulahi was already on his way to start his Masters degree in one of the best Universities in America. This gave Both Abdulahi, Banke and their families great joy that a lavish party was given to Abdulahi before his departure. It was on this night both Abdulahi and Banke went into a convenant that they will not date or sleep with any other person while apart for the while Abdulahi will be going for his studies abroad.

The love between Abdulahi and Banke grew stronger by the day as they both got intouch through phone calls, text messages and e.mails at every slightest available time they had. They were both so proud of each other that every single person Abdulahi met, heard stories about Banke and vice versa.

Exactly a year after, Banke also graduated from school but this time with a 2nd class upper division. This made her cry for days as she had promised Abdulahi and her mum she would also be a 1st class product just like her husband to be. Abdulahi consoled her at every moment and comforted her by letting her know she shouldn't bother much because she was just a level away from being an ACCA (an international accounting professional body)Professional, and a member of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN - a chatered professional body in Nigeria). And as such won't find it difficult achieving her goals in a short while because she was almost both a professional Accountant and a taxation expert. That same year Banke went for the mandatory NYSC and was posted to a bank with the influence of Abdulahi's dad.

After her NYSC, Banke was retained in the bank and was immediately promoted twice within a very short period owning to the fact that she was already a professional in Accounting and Taxation as well as the influence Abdulahi's dad had on the Bank's executives.

After the completion of Abdulahi's Master degree, the Oil firm offered him a job and Scholarship for his Ph.D degree. This Abdulahi did not resist even though Banke made her intentions known that she was already missing him seriously and wanted him to come back so they can finalize their wedding plans. He pleaded with her to just be a little patient as he will only be away for a year and a half and that after he had completed his Ph.D program, he will return home immediately.

7 months later, Banke's bank went into a merger/acquisation talks with a bigger bank due to CBN's regulations. Only that this time her bank was acquired by the bigger bank which saw so many staff losing their jobs which included Banke.

She cried day and night for several weeks because she felt she didn't deserve such after she had put in so much effort into the bank and moreover she was more qualified than most people who scaled through.

Exactly a month after the incidence, Abdulahi's dad offered her a job to be a senior consultant in his firm. Though the job will entail lots of travel, Banke didn't mind because her fiance was not in town and due to the fact she was working under her father inlaw to be. Banke was offered a salary and allowance tripple her previous salary at the bank and double what was offered to most of the present top exceutives at her present work place. This made many people both male and female upset and envious but owning to the fact it was an open secret Banke was the wife to be to the son of the Company's chairman, no one could object to it.

Banke saw her job schedule taking her regularly to the 36 states of the country, the federal capital and some other African countries were her company had clients. She loved her job so only it was a little hectic in nature. But she always consoled herself that she was not only being 'over paid' above the industry's pay level but also a part of the family and as such the need to put in an extra effort without complaining.

On this particular occasion, Banke's Firm got the contract by the Federal government to go and audit the account of a federal parastal which has been found guilty of corruption charges by the National Assembly. This saw Banke and her team traveling to over 8 states of the country to get evidences, files and reports for their duties. A day before the company's final report submission to the presidency, it was agreed by executives of the company that Abdulahi's dad being the chairman of the company and the most professional amongst the entire company staff should be the one to head the team in submitting the report to the presidency as he was in the best position to answer any technical question members of the presidency might throw at them.

That afternoon, Abdulhai's dad flew into the Federal Capital to meet with his team and asses the level of work done so far. He was totally impressed at what he saw but pointed out loopholes he noticed in the report and needed them to trash it out. This saw all members working till very late at night. When they had worked till 1am, the chairman permitted everyone to go to bed as they needed to get up early to finalize the report and go for their submission. It was while everyone was leaving, the chairman asked Banke to stay behind.

He told Banke how grateful he was to her contribution to the development of the company and that Abdulahi his son was the luckiest man on earth to have found such a wonderful lady as Banke. After nearly half an hour conversation between them both, he offered to walk Banke to her hotel door so that she can retire for the night while he returns to his room.

On getting to the front of Banke's room door, the chairman complained of having a slight migraine and asked Banke if she had any pain reliever, Banke answered in the affirmative and suggested he comes it so she can get him water and the drugs. While Banke was searching for the drugs in a handbag, her Chairman grabbed her from behind and started romancing her. Banke pleaded, cried, threatened and rain abuses on him but this fell on a deaf ears. He soon over powered her with his masculine strength and within a few minutes, Banke was rapped by the father of the only man she has truly loved and cared for. A man she looked up to as a father figure and the man who brought light into her eyes after years of darkness. After realizing what he has done, Abdulahi's dad left the room with shame and guilt leaving Banke all alone to her fate.

That night Banke spent the entire night soaked in her own tears, as she kept remembering the promises she made to Abdulahi, the good times they spent together and how she had always wanted to know only how the body of her husband to be felt and not that of another man.

In the morning of the presentation, Banke was visbly absent and when members inquired for reasons to her absence, the chairman fed them with the tales that she complained of a serious migraine and he gave her permission to take a rest for the day.

After a very successful report presentation by the team to the presidency, every member returned to their hotel in a happy mood. On getting to Banke's hotel room having made several knocks at her door with no response, Abdulahi's dad was informed by a butler that Banke had left him a letter at the hotel reception. When the letter was handed over to The chairman, in it was a short letter of Banke displaying her hatred and regret of ever coming across or knowing him. Attached was also her resignation letter from the company.

Weeks after Banke resigned and totally avoided her chairman and other members of the company, she fell ill and went to the hospital for medical checkup.
Several test were carried out on her and drugs given to her. When Banke returned to the hospital to pickup her test results, Banke was invited into the doctor's office and was informed of her test result which showed that she was two weeks pregnant. Banke was in total shock and dismay. She insisted she needed an abortion carried on her. After much pleas and persuation, the abortion was carried on her and soon she becsme more confused.

Weeks turned into months and Banke remained in a dark clowd of hers, crying every single day without informing Abdulahi or any other member of her family about the incident.

8 months later, a few weeks to Abdulahi's return into the country from his work and study in the United States to finalize their wedding arrangements, Banke fell ill again only this time when the doctor was announcing the result to her, it was with great sadness as he informed Banke that she was HIV Positive.

At that moment, Banke knew her world was totally crushed, with all hopes of having a better life crumbling right in front of her very own eyes. She left the clinic without a word only this time replaying the good, bad, and horrible moments of her life. Remembering how her mummy went into petty trading to see her and her siblings through school, how she gained admission in a far away state with her mother believing in her that she was never going to dissapoint her, how she met Abdulahi who wiped away all her tears and returned sunshine into her life and that of her family, how she put in her very best in Abdulahi's father's company. This and many more flowed through me memory.

minutes turned into hours, and hours to days and days to weeks with the hatred Banke has for Abdulahi's father growing by the second.

With less than a week to Abdulahi returning to the country, Banke has concluded she was also going to pass the HIV virus unto Abdulahi too, as she is undoubtedly sure she contracted it through Abdulahi's father as no other man has ever touched her aside that rape incidence.

She has promised not to go down alone as she will also bring tears and sorrows unto Abdulahi's family just like the one her family is about to face when she breaks the sad news to them.

Being in Banke's shoes (God Forbid) do you think this is a good decision she is about to take or will you advice her to do otherwise.

Your contribution will go a long way in saving a life in the person of Abdulahi and a comforting a chattered heart in Banke.

Banke should go for a second and third HIV tests.

Start early with her anti retroviral drugs.

For a closure, confront Alhaji in the presence of his son.

Forgive Alhaji, forgive herself.

HIV is not the end of life.

DARN!!!!

It is people like you that when a robber points a gun to your head you will still be shouting " how dare you point a gun to me? Do you know who I am? Tell me I am dreaming!"

You are limited in your thoughts and environs so don't think the world starts and ends at your comfort zone.

What you haven't heard or witnessed should look or sound fake to you.

Things sure happen in this world. And my only advice for you is pray never to be the one people will learn their stories from.

By the way, how old are you?
