A Malaysian High Court in Alor Setar on Wednesday sentenced a Nigerian to death after finding him guilty of drug trafficking two years ago,The Sun Daily reported.

Judicial Commissioner Mohd Wahab meted out the sentence today on Sylvester Okole, 33, who was charged with trafficking cannabis weighing 11,577 grammes at Platform 8, Shahab Perdana bus terminal on October 7, 2010.

The accused, clad in a white T-shirt and black trousers, looked calm when a court interpreter informed him of the sentence.

The accused was represented by B. Murthy while prosecution was carried out by Deputy Public Prosecutor Naziah Mokhtar.

Meanwhile, Malaysia customs confirmed on Wednesday that they had confiscated some $1.6m worth of drugs at two different airports and arrested three Indian and one Nigerian in the drug heist.

Police told Bikyamasr.com that they are searching for another man, a local Malaysian, in connection to drug smuggling, but would not deliver any further details.

A 22-year-old Nigerian was arrested Monday after 500 grams of methamphetamines was found in a hidden compartment of his luggage after a flight from Cairo, said Siti Baya Berahan, deputy director of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Customs Department.

Custom officers on Monday also found 10 kilograms of methamphetamines hidden in the floor of a microwave oven that they found suspiciously heavy and arrested one Indian arriving at Kuala Lumpur’s Low Cost Carrier Terminal from Kolkata, Siti Baya said.
