My laptop is a dell Inspiron 1525 and it's four years old. It's quite slow and I need to know if I need a new laptop?

Really, you are in best position to answer this question. For example, someone who uses same spec laptop for just typesetting would probably not need an upgrade as it would still meet his/her typesetting needs.

You should access your primary need for a laptop, and if a newer machine would aid you better (perhaps the extra CPU/RAM/VGA) and you've got the pocket for it, by all mean upgrade. A 4year old laptop, comparatively, is old. Technology churns outs a lot daily.
