There are basically three stages in getting a job. The first stage is identifying a job opportunity, while the second stage is applying for the position. The last stage is attending job interview. A job seeker requires specialised skill to excel in these stages in the job search process.

If you identify a good job opportunity, but the prospective employer is not impressed by your application package (your curriculum vitae and cover letter), the application will be terminated. Even if you are shortlisted for interview, you must be able to convince the interviewer that you are the best person for the job before you will be offered an appointment.

Different job seekers lose out at different stages. While some people are ignorant of job vacancies until they are over, most people who apply for different job vacancies are not shortlisted for interview.
