UMUAHIA – GOVERNOR Theodore Orji of Abia State, has given N1.5 million to 15 NYSC corps members who passed out last week for distinguishing themselves where they did their primary assignment with each receiving N100, 000.

Giving out the money, Orji said it was not easy to select the 15 outstanding members out of many, saying the corps members who were honoured deserved the honour for rendering great service to the state.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Prof Mkpa Agu Mkpa, the governor said, “What you people have done for the state is unquantifiable, as you have through your work lifted the state to a great height, we will not forget your good works to the state. You are free to come here anytime any day, as it is now your home. Please feel free to come back and stay, as our people will always accept you, because your good works will always speak for you.”

Earlier the chairman Abia state National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and the commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Akujiobi Nkoro, explained 2200 corps members were posted to the state and that it had not been easy selecting the best 15 out of them.

“During the last year’s President award night, the state produced three awardees which is the highest so far, while the indigenes of the state who were corps members serving in other states were five in number, it is a great feat”, the commissioner noted.

The man is just trying to make up for what he did the last time when he expelled d whole government workers that are not from his start!!! he should welcome back all those people he sacked if he really want to do d right thing, he should stop deceiving himself.

Why not retain them where they served or give them authomatic employment in there relevant areas of disciplines in the state instead of giving them monetary rewards? Naija and money. I tire ooo

this is a welcome development in our country if only all the other governors in other state in Nigeria will also emulate the governor of Abia state chief theodore orji who have done to this corpers who served at the state,it will help to reduce crime rate , and unemployment in the country, because if this kind of money will be given to every youth corper that served in a particular state it will bring a better development in the country.

What you guys don't understand is that the it goes beyond the 100k, it will reflect on their CV and also boost their personality. These guys spent a lot of cash doing one project or the other for the community where they did their PPA, normally they are supposed to solicit for funds but most end up using their own hard earned money for the project. For me I might like to do something but if I can't raise funds they should forget it.
