Poor old Andre Villa-Boas has barely got his feet under the table at White Hart Lane and bookmakers are already speculating how long he’ll last in the job. I suppose the Portuguese coach has history at Chelsea but circumstances at Stamford Bridge were much different. As an established Champions League presence, the Blues expected immediate results from their highly-rated new coach last season and he faced the added problem of phasing out some of their older players. On reflection, that wasn’t really a job for an outsider. Roberto Di Matteo, who knows several of the senior squad members at Chelsea on a personal level, will get a much more sympathetic hearing and, of course, he gave Roman Abramovic the Champions League trophy so you’d imagine that has given him at least a few months’ grace. Stan James make Di Matteo a 10/3 chance to be the first London manager in the Premier League to lose his job while AVB is 10/1. Fulham‘s Martin Jol and Sam Allardyce, who faces a stiff task keeping West Ham in the top flight this season, share favouritism in this market at 11/4 though it is only 3/1 that all six of the capital’s managers survive until next May.

Allardyce is 8/1 with Stan James to be the first manager, overall, to leave in the Premier League but Nigel Adkins is thought the one most at risk. Southampton‘s boss has come a long way since he was the physio at Scunthorpe but there are fears a step up to the world’s most competitive league may be a step too far and there are indications that the Saints’ new owners would rather see a better-known and more experienced manager in place at St Mary’s sooner rather than later. Adkins is 5/2 to be the first to go, while Steve Clarke will need to adjust quickly from a backroom role to the hot seat at West Bromwich Albion and is 5/1 to find himself out of work before any of his fellow managers.

Back to Andre Villas-Boas and Boylesports will lay you 1/2 that he’s still in charge of Spurs at the beginning of the 2013/2014 campaign while Paddy Power offer 3/1 that he leaves the club that season. It’s 8/11 at BetVictor that AVB leaves White Hart Lane in 2015 or later. He’s 5/1 to win a major trophy in his first season at Skybet.
