Oro Masquerade Rituals Or Festivals In Ikorodu Lagos by globaljobs(m): 9:30am On Jul 17, 2012
How are oro masquerade rituals/festivals held in Ikorodu area of Lagos state?

What time period? Day time or night time?

Are they announced so people will be aware and watch their movements?

What happens if someone is not aware and walks into the crowd of oro masquerade and their followers?

A property agent told me last week that he is afraid to recommend investing in Ikorodu properties to non-natives because of the issue of oro festivals/ceremonies/rituals that usually happen in the day time (unlike some parts of lagos where it happens only at night from, say, 10pm-5am) and can last up to 1-3wks.

To make matters worse, he said all the ikorodu villages do not have the oro festivals/ceremonies/rituals at the same time and it usually rotates from one village to another in the ikorodu area of lagos state.

He said businesses are usually closed during this period and women are not allowed to come out for fear they will see the oro masquerade and that will mean loss of their lives.

Is any of this true?

Is there anyone here in NL that lives in any Ikorodu town/village who can give some further insight into this matter.

If this is true, it would make investing in ikorodu property a very risky venture. And businesses have to close for weeks because of oro?

If any of this is true, how do we get the attention of the lagos state government to minimize or even eradicate public display of local traditions that risk other peoples freedom of movement and even lives?

Please share your experience and knowledge

This above information is not true,The oro festivals are limited to a particular area and you could move freely.Everybody will be aware .You are not the first investor, people have bought into the place and we have upper and middle class neigbourhoods in ikd.The agent is talking bullshit or maybe you are on a low budget amd going into an extreme village.

Thanks for the clarification. I guess the agent was overreacting or misinformed.
