You wil definitely be interviewed by the same VO because you'll move through the queues together as a family. I think that if you have other sources of funds to cover the deficit (the source stated on your i20), just go with the evidence (bank statement), and prepare good answers, you should be fine. tonero4urch: |

GRE wasn't required for any of the applications I made, so there was no point doing it. I simply narrowed down my professor search to programs not requiring GRE. If GRE was required, the research experience and publications will only be an edge. Pefuele: |

The COA is all inclusive of tuition, stipend, a fellowship, our health insurance, and family support funds. I don't know if it's specific to ivies, but Yale's been doing it for a few years, abs it was a deal breaker in the school I finally accepted to attend neurosci: 2 Likes |

Visa Transcript F1, F2 (wife and baby) Location: Lagos (initial date was Jan 2024, but we were able to reschedule to July 8 2021 - we didn't apply for EA, we just found that we can reschedule) Time: 7.45am Status: Approved COA: $104k approx. Fully funded (no deficit) God did it. I was interviewed first..... Dude seemed nice, he also did our fingerprint. VO: What are you going to the US for? (I requested he repeat the question again though cos my baby's cries didn't make me hear the first time) Me: I'm going for my PhD degree in Evolutionary Biology at Yale University. VO: Can you say the name of the school again? Me: Yale University VO: How many programs did you apply to? Me: Seven (six admits) VO: So, why Yale? Me: I talked about how the professors research interests aligned with mine, with specific research topics. I also talked about the presence of a strong network of researchers in my field who produce some of the best research in that field in the US. I forgot my practise (but uncrammed) lines at some point but replaced them with whatever came to mind regarding my research interests - they kuku have almost no idea what my research is about, VO: Have you been to other countries before? Me: Yes, India. VO: For what? Me: A research fellowship. I got a research fellowship and I went to India for a year to carry out the research. VO: That's great, excellent. So, I see you're fully funded, are you aware of the kind of apartments there for you? Me: Yes, one bedroom flat... One bedroom apartment VO: Has your school settled it? Me: I was about saying "no, but I've paid for it," only for him to say "I'm sure they have." I kuku kept quiet. All the while I was being interviewed, my baby was crying seriously. When I finished mine, I collected her from my wife so she too can be interviewed. She cried all through, we didn't stay in any of the queues cos of that. Then he moved to my wife VO: What do you do? Her: I'm a fashion designer, I run a fashion business. VO: What will happen to your business here? (this was a slippery slope question that we already prepped for) Her: I've handed over to my second in command for the duration I'll be away VO: What will you do when you get there? Her: I'll spend time with my husband, I'll take care of my baby VO: So you don't have any intention of working in US? Her: No, not at all. After she was interviewed, she was told our visas will be ready in a few days. I heard that and passed her our baby to collected the white paper containing the pickup address. We had a long day celebrating. I have a fairly okay profile. I'm a 2:2 BSc grad, really good MSc, a few publications and conferences, a few years of research experience (about 5 years including and a research fellowship abroad), I did TOEFL and scored 101 but didn't need to use it cos I did it because of only one school - Cornell (that rejected me), and had solid references. I've been a silent observer here, but I'll just share my 2 cents / tips on a few issues that I find worrying on this thread. Firstly, I searched and searched and for transcript from someone going for a visa interview the same day with all family members (to predict my chances. cos I'd been told by some people that we have low chances of approval if we apply together - terrible information) and someone who's going to an ivy league (to know if I'll get any privileges). But, that was ineffective, I guess my research skills just got the better of me (not sure I was mistaken to do that though). When I didn't find specifics on nairaland or quora or reddit (and generally on the Internet), I decided to read all transcripts in this particular thread from beginning till the end. The few transcripts from one-traveling parent and their F2 child(ren), and every other transcript including unsuccessful and proposed ones were very helpful in many different ways. I'm indifferent to not sharing/not-sharing programs and schools in transcripts, everyone has a reason for not wanting to share theirs - I particularly don't like being bugged with questions that a simple googling and DIY can fix. But IMHO, sharing helps a lot in linking possible questions with program, cost of attendance, work/research experience, exams done, and CV record - a DYOR person would easily be able to put 2 and 2 together from your transcript. One other issue that got me worried initially was the DS-160 question of "who's funding your trip." I picked "self." Apparently, it wasn't something to worry about. Also, I changed my current work on the form from my paid jobs to my volunteer (unpaid) research assistant job, just to avoid questions that I may not be able to answer clearly. I updated my profile four days before interview and went with the updated confirmation page only (since it was over 72 hours). My wife and I practiced every kind of question regularly including slippery slope questions, and had my sister do a final interview for us using almost 70 questions (of cos, she had no idea whether our responses were good, but we know when they're not good). Every question we were asked was practiced - not one wasn't practiced. I feel like it's just good to prepare for every kind of question and have very specific and clear (not vague) responses to them all - you'll know if your responses are vague. Also, don't lie! I'll rest. I'm deeply sorry this was long. I wish every other person going for an interview (whether F1 or F2) all the best. God's favor! 59 Likes 4 Shares |

Yes, I picked January 2024 date when I scheduled mine last month. But when I checked today, I saw that I could reschedule, so I did. Dates available are all Tuesdays and Thursdays in July and August. I would like to believe that everyone who have scheduled for dates later than their program start date can reschedule now. sayfe: |

DAYOODS: No, but you'll do course-work and preliminary research work for one year before converting to PhD in the second (or third year), depending on your committment to it. But your own minimum will be four years instead of three years like people that PhD grade. Your maximum will be six years instead of four year. 1 Like |

Jobs/Vacancies / "Financial freedom is freedom from fear.” — Robert Kiyosaki by HushTee(m): 6:35am On Sep 25, 2019 |
Have you ever felt stifled or stuck because you were fearful? You were scared to quit your job because of money. You were afraid to move because you weren’t sure about the opportunities you’d have in a new place. Fear can consume us and keep us stagnant. Financial freedom helps alleviate those fears so we can pursue action. SOURCE |

Jobs/Vacancies / 10 Terrible Excuses for Not Starting a Business Today by HushTee(m): 5:26am On Sep 09, 2019 |
At different times in our lives, we all have given one or two excuses towards starting something, be it a business, social enterprise, or even engaging in an extra-curricular activity. In the list below, I highlighted on ten excuses for not starting a business. It’s my hope that we get over these excuses for not starting a business and follow our entrepreneurial dreams. 1. No Money In entrepreneurship, you have to deal with accomplishing more with less money, staff, and time. Truth be told, the available capital will never be enough to launch your business. The best thing is to readjust your plan to fit what you have. Don’t make the mistake of having “no money” though. When you start with what you have, learn the skills of bootstrapping, grow your small business with money coming from other side jobs or small hustles, and watch yourself become financially free after a few months or years. I must say that you don’t have to quit your full-time job at the business startup 2. No Time The time available to everyone is the same. 24/7, no one has 25/8. What makes the difference is what we do with our time. The level importance and urgency of what you want to achieve will determine how you schedule your time. If you badly need your time for something profitable, I bet you’d do everything you can to find it. 3. I Don't Have Business Ideas Coming up with a novel idea is one of the most difficult situations in life, it could take you years, however, building on existing ideas is relatively easy, it could take you seconds to think up. This means, if you can’t think of a great idea immediately, ask questions and start your business with the aim of making an existing idea better, to address the complaints of consumers (or your complaints) over a market product or service. No one just wakes up to a great idea. And just like other skills, coming up with ideas is a skill, build yours over time. 4. I'm Scared I haven’t heard any startup story in which the founder wasn’t scared at the beginning. It’s a matter of choosing to be held back by your fears, or taking the bold step of channeling the fear into motivation to do great. Don’t be scared of making a mistake 5. No Connections While connections may be needed to grow your business, they aren’t exactly needed to start as long as you are going to work towards building your network once you start. By the way, what better role will social media play in your business if not to build network and connections? One thing you should know is that, some market-influential people are more accessible and responsive than you can imagine, as long as you have a good reason to need them. 6. No Skills If you were to gather all the skills you need before starting your business, then you may never start. However, do not be deceived into thinking you don’t need any skills, you do! So, how about you start with the basic skills you have and keep developing the skills? Read books, get a part-time job or volunteer to work in a business like the one you want to start, listen to people who have worked in the industry talk, watch movies in the line of the business, ask questions, attend workshops and intellectual discourses, or you could even go for a short course etc. These ways, you can earn more skills needed to grow the business. These are small sacrifices to pay, considering the benefits you will reap. 7. I'm Late In Nigeria we’ll say “dem no dey catch late-comer” (You cannot be punished for coming late). This applies to any business you want to start. Dangote wasn’t the first person to start producing sugar or cement in Africa, Zuckerberg wasn’t the pioneer of social media, Google wasn’t the first in the world of emails, and on and on and on. Infact, I’ve come to realise that most successful businesses build on already existing ideas, and make it better. 8. Nobody Will Listen To Me The only reason nobody will listen to you is if what you want to say is irrelevant to the people you’re reaching. If you are sending the relevant message to your target audience, they will listen to you. You may also want to refine your message to be interesting, emotional, informative, and maybe satirical and controversial 9. It's Too Risky I feel like using a one liner here by saying “the only risky step you can take in life is never to take a risk”. If you don’t make a move towards that idea of yours, you may regret it when you’re gray old and out of your game. No one wants to look back and say, “I wish I had done this, or that”. Take that risk, don’t be afraid of failure, setback, or falling, these are situations you can rise from. 10. I am not a Business Person This is the lamest of all excuses, because everyone is a business person, just that you want to remain in your comfort zone or you’re scared of commitments, risks, rejection, or criticism. Being a business person is never about your background or your humble personality, all it takes is to find your niches, and take advantage of your skills, achievements, experiences, and opportunities around you. Not all businesses have to be full-time, side hustles will do just fine [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jzsx4CJ--Y[/embedyt] You must know at this point that you are permitted to fail, and that business of yours have a 100% chance of failing at startup, but since I like to think failure is relative, I’d say “your failure at startup is 100% success if you pick yourself after failing”. Truly great businesses go through long hard journeys of small steps, and building on mentorships, successes, failures, experiences, challenges, mistakes, feedbacks, and motivations. How about you stop giving excuses for not starting a business, dare to try yourself on a business today with what and how you are? We’ll meet at the top If you can relate with these excuses for not starting a business, please let’s know in the comment section below, and how you overcame them. I look forward to your comments. #StartSomethingChallenge |

Jobs/Vacancies / 8 ways to grow your small business by HushTee(m): 8:42am On Jul 30, 2019 |
Generating new business by growing your customer base is important to your business success. However, it can sometimes be very challenging. Here are some practical tips to help you grow your customer base. 1. Get to know your customers Understand your customer's needs and develop products and services that meet those needs. You can gain insight into your customers by personalising your services and encouraging them to provide you with feedback. 2. Offer great customer service Ensure your customer service is exceptional and go the extra mile when you can. Your customers will not only remember great service they will also be more likely to refer other people to you. 3. Nurture existing customers and look for new opportunities Have strategies in place to nurture existing customers, such as staying in contact with them via an e-newsletter or letting them know about promotional events ahead of time. At the same time, look for opportunities to get more work and build your customer base. Make sure you find the right balance between nurturing customers and finding new ones. If you own or operate an Aboriginal business you can also promote your business by taking advantage of a free listing on the Aboriginal Business Directory Western Australia (ABDWA). An increasing number of State Government and private organisations are looking to work with Aboriginal businesses and use the directory to search for relevant suppliers. 4. Use social media Social media is a powerful tool to promote your business to potential customers and gain valuable insight through ‘social listening’. Through social listening you can find out what customers are saying about you, gain insight into their behaviour, identify keywords and trends that appeal to your target market and so improve your customer service. Social media can help you to build your business profile and attract new customers. 5. Attend networking events Invest time to build your networks – it’s not what you know but who you know. Networking allows you to build relationships with other people and encourage them to refer customers to you through word of mouth. 6. Host events Hosting your own event can be a great way to get to know your customers and build relationships. Invite some of your best existing customers and encourage them to bring their friends. 7. Give back to your community Building brand awareness in your local community is a great way to attract new business. Consider sponsorship or participating in a community event to raise your business profile. 8. Measure what works and refine your approach as you go You should monitor where your customers are coming from in order to measure whether your marketing activities are successful or not. Don’t be afraid to experiment. Refine your approach if something is not working and focus more time on the activities that achieve the best results. Jobs/Vacancies / Start Something Challenge ...What Have You Been Doing? by HushTee(m): 12:21pm On Jul 29, 2019 |
It's The Start Something Challenge Back then in 2017, I met up with three female friends discussing basic life issues, and just as we were about rounding up our gist to go our separate ways, another friend joined us, and the reception he got showed that he was apparently welcome to extend our stay there. This friend wasn't exactly interested in extending our stay there, all he needed was assistance with scanning a few documents. By the time he was done, he left us, but not without a few lines which actually got us thinking. Although, the four of us were postgraduate students (till now), we just couldn’t get a handle of the emotional and motivational stimulation his words had on us. Up till that moment, we had taken to self development, but we hadn’t been doing enough. Rather than use those few times we had with each other in building each other up, we had been spending it in discussing the challenges and issues facing us in our comfort. What have you been doing It’s high time you woke up from that slumber!!! Beyond acquiring an academic degree, you should possess personal values because there’s a lot to achieve in life. You cannot afford to sleep away your time, neither can you let slothfulness steal your future. How about you: 1. Draw out a personal vision 2. Find out what you are passionate about 3. Plan your personal development 4. Do something The above four should be channeled at the following value adding activities; - Join an organization - Volunteer for an organization - Partake in community development - Acquire a skill - Take an online course - Start a blog - Join the literary and debating society - Engage in student politics - Read books - Attend mentoring and coaching classes - Join a sports team - Network with people in your area of interests - Attend conferences - Stay up to date with current happenings All these activities among many others, are critical to your progress and success in life. You don't have to do all, neither should you do just one. A combination of a few is perfect for self development It’ll give you self awareness, a sense of direction, improved focus and efficiency, more motivation, greater resilience, professional network, and fulfilling relationships. Enough of the lazying around. Aspire! Get involved in something, and see where it gets you in the long run ...Who knows? Maybe a Scholarpreneur For those of you who have been doing something, what have you been doing? Its the Start Something Challenge Leave a comment in the section below. Lets know your thoughts and suggestions on other activities a student can be involved in towards personal development PS. Three of us are running businesses, one of the females is in the corporate world, we are all still postgraduate students at a higher level, Scholarpreneurs is growing, and the guy is dating one of the females now. We all have grown, but are still works-in-progress. #StartSomethingChallenge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjifbY78cVs 1 Like |
Jobs/Vacancies / 2018 BRAND GOALS by HushTee(m): 6:27pm On Jan 18, 2019 |
All I wanna do in 2018 is "build my brands" ...who's with me Okay, so, if you're with me, please let's not make one social media mistake in 2018 so we can build the brand faster, and that's the mistake of posting things irrelevant to our personal brands, particularly if you have a doubt about that thing. Don't bother hit the post button if you think it has nothing to do with your brands, I'm not saying you shouldn't wish somebody happy birthday oh, at least wish me, but then, do it the way you want you're brand to be remembered Although me I've started my brands this year, yes, one of them is Scholarpreneurs. Please, don't bother calling me its founder yet, just build with me, visit www.scholarpreneurs.com, read any post on our website, drop a comment and get a response, share the post and get a like, screenshot anything you like, engage us in any discussion, post a question and get a response ...also like/follow all our pages (@scholarpreneurs, @oso_tee) on social media, tag me/us too ...finally, get ready to subscribe and like, I mean, watchout for my YouTube Channel too ...be ready to get featured and make a difference ...Let's do this ...Let's just build that brand ...I'll build yours with you too |

Jobs/Vacancies / Get 5-star Upwork Ratings And Upwork Reviews From Verified Upwork Client Account by HushTee(m): 9:48am On Sep 25, 2018 |
CLICK HERE TO GET 5-STAR UPWORK RATINGS AND UPWORK REVIEWS Hi Upwork Freelancers, It’s not news that the internet has lots of money making opportunities, the difficult part is how to grow in the league of people making this money. Okay, this is strictly for upwork users. I’ve been using upwork for about three years now, and I have had successes with opening foreign accounts, earning on them, and growing to top rated status in less than seven months on both accounts, but where I didn't have any success is in keeping this accounts. I couldn’t keep them because they were foreign accounts that weren’t accounts in my name, and at some point, upwork either requested for ID card, or video verification, so I decided to open a Nigerian Upwork account. Growing my Nigerian account in the initial ten months was very stressful, especially getting 5-star rating and good upwork reviews from real jobs. Thanks to my experience using upwork, I was able to grow it, and now I'm in the top-rated category with a blue tick. But you really don’t have to go through this stress I went through. I know that there are others like me who are struggling to grow their Upwork accounts the same way I struggled. Why struggle? Contact me for real reviews with 5-star ratings, on multiple client accounts. CLICK HERE TO GET 5-STAR UPWORK RATINGS AND UPWORK REVIEWS Quick Tip All you need is one good review per week with small paid jobs, or one good review every two weeks with highly paid jobs. Its best though, to have one good review every week on one highly paid job 1 Like |
