When you go out with your boss, you loss your dignity on the job. Besides that spoils the working relationship that exists between you two. I can bet, you won't even last on the job! |

ceceters: Ceceters, Please don't get me wrong, all am saying is that you should at every instance make sure you comply with the instructions given on advert placements otherwise use the method that best suits you but i will recommend you have your cover letter attached to your application. E.g say you have a two paged CV u can copy your cover letter on the third page such that when the CV is printed out, the employer also gets to see your cover letter. Hope i have answered your question. Best of luck! |

Jobs/Vacancies / Why Applicants Are Not Called For Interviews by lapaz: 10:45am On Feb 21, 2008 |
Dear colleagues: I write this on a very sad note to all applicants, intending applicants as well as applicants awaiting to be called for interviews. This is a personal experience and i thought i should share it with members of this forum. Please pass it on as you never can tell who will benefit from this piece. My Organization placed as advert on Tuesday's edition of the Guardian Newspaper (19/2/08) inviting applications from suitable candidate for 4 positions - Assistant Project Manager, Staff Attorney, Program Officer - Health and Program Officer - Housing. I am responsible for receiving the applications and you can imagine how sad i was to see several applicants not following simple instructions. The instruction on the advert was very simple - "Applicants should forward their Applications and CVs as Microsoft word Attachments" . Of all the applications i have received from Tuesday to this morning, I can count the number of applicants that followed that very simple instructions. I was generous enough to help some who scribble somethings as their cover letter on the body of their mail but that is not just enough because it not only make my work difficult and longer the content might not be strong enough for those shortlisting to work with while selecting those to be called for interview. For those that i cannot help at all, i have responded to their applications so i advice those who might be in this category to check their in-box and bulkmail for response. Nairalanders, please let us adhere strictly to instructions on job applications as that is the beginning of the every selection process. Thank you. |

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Why Gate Crash? by lapaz: 3:35pm On Aug 06, 2007 |
Thank you oisrael, I must commend your response too, to be very honest with you i was actually expecting responses on the negative because so many Nairalanders are guilty of this attitude. I am not writing off the fact that some gatecrashers excel as such tests, my concern is that nairalanders should stop tagging enquirers with names such as "selfish" and the likes. That is my point, if you've got the information pass it and stop being insultive. Thanks once again for your response. Still expecting more responses from others though, especially those who might not be too comfortable with this piece. Thanks |
Jobs/Vacancies / Why Gate Crash? by lapaz: 2:53pm On Aug 06, 2007 |
Dear Nairalanders, I have observed various threads on this forum with deep concern and i am not entirely happy as to some members responses especially with regards to inquiries from other Nairalanders as it relates to tests and interviews. Does anyone need to ask for the date, time and venue for a test or interview when such a person is obviously not invited? I personally think it is wrong. If you have the information on what the test format is, I think the best is to give the person making such inquiry rather than harass the person with statements such as being selfish and the likes. I want to believe this forum is to help get applicants posted and informed about jobs available and most especially provide answers to series of question posed from members concerning test formats. My observation is that many landers tend to insult others when inquiries are made concerning what to expect at a particular test. I want to advice that landers should desist from this attitude because i feel that employers will just take advantage of you because they can see desperation in you when you gate-crash. If you are qualified for a position and you actually applied, i am very sure the organization will not hesitate to call you for written tests or interviews either by text messages, telephone calls or by e-mail. Please lets stop harassing other landers by this attitude. If you were not invited for a test or interview, i don't see any reason for you to gate-crash. Lets continue to add values to ourselves, continue to believe in God, hope for the best to come and keep our heads up. Thanks |

Food / Re: Egg Rolls by lapaz: 12:34pm On Jul 06, 2007 |
Flour Sugar (to taste) Salt (a pinch) Baking powder water Butter Eggs (boiled) Vegetable oil Tools flat surface or board rolling pin knife deep frying pan perforated spoon Method remove shell from your boiled eggs, sift flour and baking power together, add sugar and salt with the flour mixture, add butter to the flour mixture and knead together till it becomes like bread crumps, add water and mold into dough, split dough into sections and move to the clean flat surface, using the rolling pin, roll out the dough to any thickness (depending on how thick u want your egg rolls), put your egg at the center of the rolled out dough wrap the dough round the egg (still on the flat surface) pack excess tip of dough together and cut off with a knife Roll the (art work) in a clock-wise manner on the flat surface to give the round shape and to repeat the process above if you have more than one egg heat your vegetable oil put in the egg roll for frying (deep frying required) reduce the heat to give room for even frying fry till golden brown or desired colour And your egg roll is ready! Hope you'll be able to put this into practice, it makes perfect when you keep trying. NB The frying process requires deep frying |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Age Limitation In Vacancy Adverts by lapaz: 11:47am On Jul 06, 2007 |
I thinks it really unfair on older applicants cos with the current ASUU problems in the country, how on earth for goodness sake do those employers think a applicant can graduate at the stipulated time. Take for instance, after WAEC (if you are luck to make in at a sitting) the JAMB thing comes up (thanks to the post-Jamb test) so no long legs will be required to an extent. Finally, you get into school and you are faced with ASUU strike today ASUU strike tomorrow. I am currently running a part-time programme, (i took it up with the thoughts that the programme will not be affected by the ASUU strike but alas!) and have been on the programme (from 200 level) since 2003 (we were actually supposed to resume for the programme in 2002 but a 6 month ASUU strike kept us till 2003) I personally thing prospective employers should give applicants equal opportunities to let them show the stuffs they've got rather that putting limitations such as age and experience. |
Religion / Re: Mammy Water: Myth Or Reality? by lapaz: 2:01pm On Jun 07, 2007 |
I think we've heard rumors and even tales of mammy water beings. I can remember that one of the middle/late 80's edition of the Nigerian Tribune featured a story about some group of scientists who stumbled on a baby mammy somewhere on the Atlantic pictures of the creature inclusive. The baby actually asked the scientists to let go or calamities befall their nation. You should read that up by checking up the Nigerian Tribune archives. Its a reality and i don't think we humans really pose a threat to them. Geetee |
