Nigerian banks that are known to issue affordable Mastercard Debit/Credit cards include:

- First Bank: http://www.firstbanknigeria.com/adc/adc_mcard.asp
- Ecobank (the EcoBank Mastercard): sunnewsonline
- Standard Trust Bank (STB Mastercard/Maestro Card)

Those cards should be usable for making online purchases, and you'll need the naira equivalent of $250 (or more).  So call up the above listed banks and ask them about their requirements.  Good luck!

Obtaining a credit card in Nigeria is one thing, being able to use the card on the internet is another – for a credit card merchant to accept your card as a form of payment and deliver your goods/services as ordered requires trust; the knowledge or peace of mind that the transaction wouldn’t be charged back.

Nigeria has lost credibility, a browse on eBay will show that Nigerians in Nigeria are specifically being excluded from bidding for fear of fraud, 90% of online merchant wouldn’t sell to Nigerians with a Nigeria address or shipped to Nigeria.

It is nice and a good thing that credit card are now being issued in Nigeria; this is a welcome development, however a lot need to be done by the card issuers in Nigeria and the government in PR to try and redeem Nigeria image domestically and in the international arena before credit card issued in Nigeria on a Nigerian address can be widely accepted by online merchant.

Nigeria as lost credibility ! I know those banks issues credit card but i never saw anyone use it online. But I think they should accept it since NIgerian banks now  issue it.

@gorillaz
Haba! Nigerians!!!. Come into the business terrain and lets see how u'll fair. I'm not a pro-gtn but I've used their service. I actually got my domain name and webspace from them. It was ready in 24hrs. www.layikamoju.com
Just 1 business day late aint enough to discredit them.
Why don't you go and ask for a refund instead of sayin 'they are suspect'. Na wa for you o.

Are you serious? I'm talking about missing out on trading for the best part of friday and all of monday!!! I'm sure we all agree that in this day and age of internet fraud and the advent of yahoo-yahoo boys, we all have to be careful. They may have gotten your services up in record time Layi, but first impression counts.

I actually wanted to get a card from them but after the bruhaha with my friend, I decided against it. Service delivery cannot be over emphasized. If they had been in touch with my friend on friday with an explanation, it would not have come to this.

When he called them on monday, he was told that his card might not be ready and that he needs to check his mail on tuesday. Now, tell me if that is suspect or not. Anyways he has since recieved his money back with no hassles and no explanations as to what really happenedl!!!!!!

concerning me coming into the biz world layi, I am in it already! 4 years deep as it is. All i'm saying is this. If services required are not going to be available as at when due, it would not hurt to let your customers know that. It should be a golden rule, if it isn't already.

No hard feelings to GTN, if they are as good as you say Layi, a good customer support, otherwise known as hand-holding, will go a long way in making customers happy. you are. Imagine how many others are not.

I understand you. The only thing that stands u out in the fiercely competitive IT circuit is your customer service (or disservice Grin).
True, First Impression matters. They might not be accurate in service delivery but i had to put in a word when u said they are suspect. There might be better companies around but i know they are genuine.

Visa card in 5 minutes!. It's true! Try it.
« #19 on: December 15, 2005, 06:12 AM »

My friend introduced me to this site and I never looked back since.  This is no fiction. You get to create your own Visa debit card and you get it in 5 seconds.  See,  the time it took you to read this message?, that is how long it takes to get your visa card!. This is no joke!  Plus the site allows you to send a United states check to a merchant. Imagine that you can send a US check or money order to a merchant online if that is the preferred payment method?  If you have  account, you can transfer fund to your  instantly!

I have used this site for over 1 year and I know it's the best.

Good Luck!

Hi everyone. I think Layi is right. Any company that can refund your money in Nigeria without problems is worth dealing with. Layi, thanx, I think I know where to get my card now. I have money in www.virtualkard.com and they said something about the compnay they use having a problem and the balance I had there was stuck. I will never get the money back!! If GTN refunded your money, then i can trust them.

Anyone who wants a credit card for online payments should visit www.epaypanel.com and see what is there.

Our card providers are based in Africa, so the issue of having funds trapped in places where it can be seized pronto is virtually nil. (ask those who used Paypal prior to Sept 11, 2001; their bitter stories are an eye-opener).

Also, cards are delivered in a week, and if not, you get a refund, clean!

There are also options: Reloadable Mastercard and Non-reloadable VISA

Both work for online payments.

Of course, getting a card is one thing. Buying from a site that has decided to blacklist Nigeria is another as they will never accept your payment, even if you get your card from Bank of America.

Anyhow, we have a UK office that deals with this problem.

So try us out!
