^^^^^ just to add to CC, if you have a humidifier, it will help with his sneezing and mucus.

I don't think he can contact tatanus, but i know u should clean the navel with spirit as often as u can till it heals completely and of course you aint suppose to be exposing it like that. for the sneezing, please take him to see the doctor.

I will post ur question on this thread, maybe others can contribute

You did not pass anything on to your baby. The sneezing and the mucus can be tied to the same thing. The air in the room might just be too dry. The humidifier was a good suggestion. You can also just turn off the AC and open the windows early in the morning and in the evening. As for the tetanus thing I have never heard of that.

PS
Wash your hands before you do anything with him and not everybody who walks into your home needs to carry the baby. If they must then they should wash their hands also. I don't know why people don't know that you should wash their hands before carrying someones baby. Only God knows if they scratched their bum before they entered the house.

grin grin That kind of scratching that they chook their hand inside their pants and scratch wella, after scratching they will now smell it and rub both hands together. grin grin grin

Do you bosom feed? if you do continue doing it and increase the frequency. You said he sweats a lot?We don't want him to get too dehydrated.

One thing new mamas don't know is, they need to make sure their house is kept clean. Watch where they wash their babies clothes. Kids have got sensitive nose, They are good dust inhalers

Eww Jenny. Honestly you never know. I know this lady that smells so bad that I thought that maybe she just did not use deodorant. I finally realized that she does not take a shower everyday. If she does not wash her as.s everyday how will she think it is necessary to wash her hands even if they were filthy dirty. Then when someone like that is told to wash her hands before she touches a baby she go dey frown face. LOL

It is normal for most new born to sneeze, it helps them clear their airways. For d tetanus it is wen d navel is being exposed to dirt. So mak sure u wash ur hands before u clean it. As for d sweating u don't need to cover him up or put on cap on him wen indoors. Learn to wash his cloths seperatly for d 1st 3 months as their skin is very sensitive

With regards the navel thing, please note that cleaning it regularly ( i think the midwives advise twice daily) with spirit is just what you need. Please don't worry unnecessarily over this, as long as you are not exposing the baby to sand, filth and any source of infection.

The sweating thing is a bit of a worry, because you dont want the child dehydrated as someone has said. Many times in Nigeria we so bundle up babies even in seriously hot weather, one can only wonder. Please stop stifling the child in blankets and what have you. The rule of thumb to go by is dress up your baby in the same layering that you are wearing except for extreme circumstances where you may need to add an extra layer.
Please note that if you are worried for anything, you should contact the hospital. Don't worry, doctors and nurses are used to seeing a lot of new mothers (don't know if you are) very very frequently in the first few months.
