You need to indicate on the screen which button to "press" to do "what". been there few minutes I could only move back and forth, jump and all but how do I talk? and solve problems, . . . . ?

Cool!!!

Did you use a custom game engine and plugin?

Edit: Seems like it's unity. Still Awesome
Re: Nigerian Made 3d Game On Subsidy: See Nigerian Creativity: by gameaddict(m): 4:07pm On Jan 21, 2012
Try making the menu respond to mouse clicks.

The character animation [ salute ] seems incomplete and loops continuously. You should wait till the player gets within a certain distance.

Anyways, good luck.

Hows your math and AI?

GAME TIPS: The game map was intentionally omitted to make the gameplay more tasking. While playing, when the bunkering alert appears, use the GPS Coordinates of your player, move till you match that of the Bunker and you would locate him. Thanks, you all are the best.

@djsholi: Unity3d is the engine we chose for the game project we are working on here on nairaland. We've made two demos, stored on sourceforge. I lost the source to the most recent one and all my work when my hard drive 303d/died.

I'm currently rebuilding some of my old work but concentrating more on learning game related math, physics and AI for now but I'll be happy to help whenever I can.

A tip: Removing the map could be more fun if the player had more things to do or more challenges to face early on. Simple graphic way pointers can also replace the need for a map.

Re: Nigerian Made 3d Game On Subsidy: See Nigerian Creativity: by gameaddict(m): 10:49pm On Jan 22, 2012
@djsholi: I started learning programming late 2009 or so cuz I'm very much interested in gamedev. Right now, I can create simple 2d and 3d games as well as simple graphics to accompany them but I want to improve on my maths, AI and physics. Most of my recent work was aimed at teaching myself general techniques on game programming, graphics and game design. Maybe after my exams, I can try another project but I'm concentrating on learning maths and co right now. Perhaps by july, I'll be ready to do something large.

PS: I made a multiplayer fps demo/base with unity last year. It was supposed to serve as a framework for two games but I lost it when my HDD crashed. I've attached an image of a character in the first demo. My 3d modeling and texturing knowledge isn't strong hence my decision to use cel shading (that plus I love cel shading). Hopefully, I'll have time to improve b4 july.

The second game will be african themed. Can't work on it yet though,  perhaps I'll start with the framework after exams.

Re: Nigerian Made 3d Game On Subsidy: See Nigerian Creativity: by gameaddict(m): 1:26pm On Jan 24, 2012
@N-Soul: The fact that a company is an indie company doesn't mean the team isn't made up of experts. Some of them have worked for EA and other big companies. Also, its not a mater of Nigerians can do better. Its about enjoying what you do and doing the best you can.

Nevertheless, I understand your view and support it. We should constantly challenge ourselves and strive to achieve the best we can.
Re: Nigerian Made 3d Game On Subsidy: See Nigerian Creativity: by NSoul: 2:50pm On Jan 24, 2012
@gameaddict,
there are several games in the indie space that weren't made by "experts" as you put it.
for instance, take a look at this link: http://www.tigsource.com/2012/01/12/top-indie-games-of-2011-according-to-the-tigsource-forums/
Alot of those games, some don't have fancy stuff - that most people would term were made by 'experts' - yet the games are really fun to play and have a great formula of mechanics and gameplay.
my arguement with the quote that 'Nigerians can do better', is based on that fact that there are hundreds , heck, even thousands of even neater ideas (than those in that link) floating around in Nigeria.
Nigeria itself is big enough on it's own to even be a small continent sef.
The issue is not the ideas themselves per se, but rather actually their execution. as well as, in addition, what you said about enjoying what one does. that's important as well. -make games that are 'fun' first before worrying about all the other things (e.g graphics, money, and what not).
Re: Nigerian Made 3d Game On Subsidy: See Nigerian Creativity: by gameaddict(m): 9:12pm On Jan 24, 2012
@N-Soul: My last statement did not imply that indie companies are all made up of experts. As a matter of fact, I spend most of my time online playing games made by individuals rather than companies. My previous comment was partially about the team who made Bastion.

I also agree with your point on features that make a game. Concentrating on 'gameplay and fun' is more important than having certain features and cool graphics but don't forget that it all depends on your idea and intent. Sometimes, wrong execution can result from weak expression of what your game entails. Darkness and shadows can express danger and build suspense, Blue skies and flowers can express bliss. A happy person covered in blood is strange. Don't just create any environment or character and expect everything to be ok. Express your intent as best as you can.

Lastly, I'd say the best thing about your previous post is that you made mention of people worrying about money. I think too many people worry about it and this is one of the greatest stumbling blocks when it comes to ideas and execution.
