Unforseen circumstances happens, as it stands now more than 200 ships are stranded to pass through the Suez canal

The charterers knows the risks involved in shipping business (Grounding, Fire, sinking)

Is it stands so, Their charter rates is counting daily (Is a contract agreement)

If I lease out my Keke for you to to pay N300 per day (In a very good condition) You don't come back and tell me stories that you were sick, It was raining, or you got arrested (What I'm interested is my returns)

That's the scenerio playing out here..... And vessels queuing up to pass the Suez canal cannot go through the African route to Asia (This will cost them more money and transit time)

Shipping Business is not for the faint hearted.... Any mistake you go bankrupt

I quiet agree with you , I hope other shippers won't sue Ever Given, I don't think insurance cover incidents like this.

Do you need powerbank for laptop, over ten hours guaranteed and twenty hours possible. Increase your productivity and work when you like. Don't get mistaken for a Yahoo boy because of your generator noise

Not the captain but the pilot onboard, whenever a ship calls into port, a pilot boards the ship and take over command and shows where the captain should ply (Even though the captain knows but it's a regulation), but from speculations about this incident, it was a wind that made ship go off course..

When it comes to ship incident, we do not make hasten conclusions till after investigation

Egypt is loosing about $9.8 Billion dollars per day because of this incident
Very informative insight, although $9.8 billion is such an outrageous amount of money, crazy figure indeed, are you sure of the numbers?

And if Egypt makes so much money in a day from their waterways alone, they would comfortably have the highest GDP both Nominal and PPP in Africa and a commanding position in the world too.

Yes bro.its called principle of floatation. In physics, Archimedes principles states that when a body is wholly or partially immersed in a fluid ( water or gas) it experiences a loss in weight or an upthrust equal to the weight of the fluid displaced.thats why when you want draw water from the well, you experience the bucket being less heavy inside the water but more heavy outside.when a heavy object dispaces a given volume of water equal to it's weight, then it can float. wink
Bt why human beings no dey flow for water, unless they learn to?

The captain of the ship isn't the one in charge when it happened.

When a ship is entering harbour, there is usually a habour pilot assigned. He knows Everything about that particular port like where the water is shallow or deep, he also has all the necessary resources and info at hand including weather forecasts.

There's a lot the pilot can do to correct the vessel's position given the realities on ground.

This must be down to human error
am not disputing you opinion but remember the ship is sailing off not entering harbour it's only navigating through the canal. the wind speed and direction is totally independent of the pilot and captain they can only work with the available data on meteorological information of the area, so I still maintain that on wind issue it's out of their control

Another hit from Explorer . The captain of the ship should be punished for his mistakes ... Meanwhile there must be an option before the day runs off, I trust the white when it comes to emergency like this

Not the captain's fault. The news says a mysterious WIND turned the ship .

Joysticks:
Explain

When a solid body is partially or completely immersed in a fluid, the fluid exerts an upward force on the body, whose magnitude is equal to the weight of the displaced fluid.

Let me rephrase in simpler terms -

When an object is thrown into a body of water, it experiences an upthrust, which is directly proportional to the quantity of water being displaced.

Ships stay afloat corollary to this principle.

My2cents.

Yes.when a heavy body enters the water,it sinks.human beings can sink too..but when you swim, you are actually displacing a certain volume of fluid (water).. allowing you to float.displacement can be by hand or leg. wink

For now, no. Until the deep seaport at lekki is completed. The harbour at Apapa and others are too shallow for this kind of vessel. Not too sure but I think current channels can only take like 4,000 TEU capacity ships

The Captain will probably be sanctioned, could be negligence on his part. These shipping companies are merciless when issues arises that will cost them increased operational cost.

What is Egypt doing with all the money it makes from the canal that it has not invested in redundancies all these decades.

If poor Panama could so it, why not. But typical Africa. They wait for trouble before thinking. Look at the pitiable excavator being used to free such a massive ship. What a joke.

Nice explanation. But why do stones sink into the water when being thrown to the water, instead of floating?... Since a stone is a solid body. And also, why do humans begin to sink once they dive into the water, if they don't know how to swim?

This is what happened

Evergreen, a Taiwanese shipping company which owns the vessel, says a freak gust of wind blew the ship off course before it became struck after which it lost power and steering.

So how is the captain to be blamed or punished, did he manufacture the wind that blew the ship off course, or is it from his village the wind came from??

See the size of that ship, waters could possibly be the strongest surface on earth, even stronger that land, that ship could have sunk moving on land with tyres

I understand bro. Don't mind my comment, it was done on a lighter note. Definitely, Captain work for this kind of ship is not easy especially through that narrow channel.

Whoever navigates such, must be a highly trained and disciplined person. Much respect to them. wink

the statement says it was a freak gust of wind that caused it , not the captains carelessness. The canal is so narrow that the ship engine is shut off and it's control turned off so that only special tug boats pull it along.
