They analyse everything based on formulas they either read about; learned whilst within the four walls of a University; or what was fed to them by Western controlled news media - when it has been proven several times that you can't apply the same formulas to everything, and practicality in context is different what you learned theoretically.

I think the reason is partly the effects of colonial indoctrination and partly poor educational standards.
I was with a group of people whom i assumed were learned and i was telling them how christianity came to nigeria citing many events from the national archives in order to persuade them to accept that teaching christian religious knowledge in schools is extremely dangerous psychologically to our children and our culture as our identity, i used a JSS 3 students notebook as an example where a topic " the evil of african traditional religion" was treated and imediately they all verbally abused me and the priest(catholic priest) said i was posessed. The two things that pained me was that i use reason,logic,historical and verifiable evidence and observed abnormalities on contemporary african society to back my points while they as OP said kept repeating same "your are working for the devil " phrase which provides no information nor illumination on their point if they had one.
Secondly the few who understood me were reluctant to criticise the status quo for fear of the priest(in white) or being bundled as an antichrist with me.
When i started stating in chronological order how christianity was sustained in eastern nigeria with the killings,forceful detentions and partial genocides in the name of god and compared it to the Muslim Jihad they simply asked me to leave.

Black people are intelligent. They just need to stop being so superstitious and religious. When more black people embrace logic and reason, the scales will start to fall from their eyes.

its time we start working on our intelligence. its not by chance that in a bbc global intelligence research africans ranked very low. someone concluded that that's why africa is underdeveloped. it could be genetic or psychological. considering NL and many nigerians, we are good readers of news and socializing without sarcificing a quarter of our time reading well researched works or concepts. e.g "NOI is evil", why did she 'if' she was the proponent of the move of subsidy embark on it? what rely is the idea behind subsidy? NO! we will quickly run out with placards and waste online time ranting. reacting to news is a sheer sign of mental poverty, lack of common sense and the likes.

Case study, how many times do you see Nigerians apologizing for wrongdopng. We hardly say "sorry" except when we are under threat. People drive recklessly and abuse u for correcting them, they make mistakes @ work and hate you for highlighting their mistakes.

OP you are right. People dont think at all here. Educated Nigerians are only interested in the certificate they obtained and they all brag about it. A german scientist friend of mine never mentioned to me that he is a phd holder in astronomical physics until after more than two years. A nigerian will make you know that in an hour of meeting him or her.

I blame it on our outmoded culture. That is what breeds the corrupt society we have today.

Actually, you barking up the wrong tree. It's NOT a Nigerian thing rather it's A BLACK THING! As much as i hate to say this, the black man has a lot of evolving to do. World wide, we are a global embarrassment (the few black folks that make history are nothing compared to the billions remaining). For instance. . .black folks still remain minorities in the US but check out their prisons. . .who has the largest population? BLACKS! ! ! And it's usually for bottom ladder crimes such as armed robbery,drug trafficking,rape,murder and other violent crimes. Go to Asian jails and check out the population of blacks there. It's appalling. How about down here in Africa? Can you name ONE country blessed in mineral resources that isn't either going through serious civil strife or riddled with corruption? Is it Sudan,Nigeria or Liberia? Which?

With all the billions of dollars (probably trillions due to poor accountability) Nigeria makes yearly, we still can't afford good roads, decent infrastructure,24/7 electricity,security of human lives and property,affordable housing,social security,health insurance and so on. In this day and age, we are still talking about manual bore-holes. Some stupid governor will put 5 manual bore holes in a rural community,claim to have spent N700million on the project and there'll be a media frenzy over his "achievements". It's simply ridiculous and pathetic.

@op u sound like one of my lecturer, u used most of his favourites terms. he is rational, a critical thinker.His ideal is that of a conscientised populace who would be able to their destiny into their hands. Most of my course mates would say he is strict cos he does'nt take poo from students but for me he was my best.

But the problem is we are afraid of accepting that which apears to be contrary to our preconception and preconviction even though we can see that the new knowledge is, beyond all doubt, true. We prefer to accept that the reason why the match stick lights up after being struck at the side of the match box is due to some supernatural phenomenon rather than scientific process. We tend to see the supernatural in all things.this trend is made worse by the radical pentecostal churches we have today.

Your brain is there to absolve, analyze, and gather information from different sources (many sources) - think critically, to form your opinion. Not just one way traffic, from one source - that's indoctrination.

I assume you're a graduate - and I sincerely hope you didn't use just one source of information for your dissertation. And assume in your evaluation and literature review, you did critique your own dissertation - and talked about the short comings and merits of the academic sources you cited in your dissertation.

That's basically critical thinking. Please, apply it to your everyday life and stop being a slowpoke.

Valid point. I'm not a psychiatrist so can't say which is which but we are both on the same side.

What I find interesting is that Nigerians seem to be more affected by Upward Social Comparison and then we are still one of the happiest people in the world. Ironic isn't it?
