Honestly, I read nothing meaningful up there... Matter of fact, I read nothing beyond the part in bold, which did nothing but show you up as an ill-bred, over-defensive dunce!

Don't ever quote me again!!!
I will quote you to illuminate you. How many structural feats do you have in Ghana and Benin republic? I can give you at least 5 Indigenous Nigerian engineering coys that have executed projects in South Africa and Botswana. I can tell you for free that FMA have designed institutional buildings in almost all parts of Africa and beyond. All these quack Masons from Cotonou

Hideki:
Not structural design flaws, because there are softwares that can detect structural faults and uneven dead load distribution at the design stage. There are software that can even compute structural analysis and factor of safety. The reason for collapse is greed and fraud on the part of the owner or the contractor. For the owner to even be on site tells a lot. Your project manager and the building team should be the people supervising the project.

Software performs theoretical evaluation. The issue could even be from the software that you're talking about. The software works with the values that it was given. The state of the land on which the building was constructed is a very important variable. Software can tell you that something is correct, whereas it's very wrong.

If you give the software a wrong value, it may give you the wrong result or the correct result, depending on the variation in input value. It's all garbage in garbage out.

The owner of a building should be on site as much as possible. Nigerian workers cannot be trusted with resources. Some will even steal rods, bags of cement, etc, and tell you that they were not enough.

Don't be quick to castigate others.

Quality control should be taken seriously in this country. We can’t keep wasting people’s lives. Casualties might not be much if the Emergency guys arrives early. Unfortunately, this is Nigeria where a pizza delivery is faster than Nigeria Emergency team. Shame!

Thank you my brother, the issue here is purely quality control. I recently had an experience with a friend who went to Steel Village in PH to purchase some rods for his construction project. On his list were various lengths of rods he will need to buy. My friend not wanting to be short-changed by the engineer decided to buy his material himself so I tugged along.

Within the steel village, when we made enquiry for 16mm, 12mm, and 10mm rods, low and behold what we were shown were 14mm,10mm and 8mm in places of 16, 12 and 10mm. The friend is not so technical when it comes to issues like this, I now had to call his attention to the quality of the rods, alas, when I now informed the sellers that these grades of steel were below the actual steel, they all came out to say it is the Economy, it is affecting everything even quality of many products. At the end of the, we actually got our listed rod at the right quality but at a far higher price. This is the state of the country. Had I not been with my friend and he made his purchases and left if tomorrow something happens and the building collapse, we all start shouting Engineers, but in actual fact, the strength of materials used was far below standards.

I remember telling them that many collapsing structures most times are as a result of their activities, compromising with the quality of materials on sale to inexperienced buyers. The stated quantity of material needed for a building project is bought, however, the quality is far below standard quality. Check out many consumer products like your normal satchel peak milk, the 1g sachet, same thing, weight far below 1g and then the quality of the milk is also far below normal quality yet, the price is on a daily increase, look around you, its also happening with other consumer products and unfortunately in the building industry, it is very fatal when projects like this fail.

To me, prices can be increased but let the quality of the product not be tampered with.

May God help the trapped victims and keep them safe.

Defending mediocrity?
What's the ratio of high rise buildings in those countries to Nigeria? Answer this question and see how skewed your defence is.

I don't know the ratio. Can you provide it? I'd like to learn.
This is not about mediocrity in the construction industry. I am telling you your assertion of "ALL/ANY high rise in Nigeria" is factually and statically flawed.

Were you the one who sold the substandard material to them? The chances that a 21 storey building was constructed using substandard material is almost zero.

Most of these are caused by structural design flaws.

Thank God you said 'most'. Meaning you are not absolutely sure either.

We haven't been able to successfully handled anything in this country. Most of these buildings are deathtraps.

fkj950ax:

Assumption and generalization are the lowest form of objective discourse.

Less than 0.5% of high rise buildings in Nigeria have collapsed. There are buildings in Nigeria built years ago still standing.

Even in developed countries, high rise collapses. This is a report of a building that collapsed in 2021 in Florida, USA.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-57592827

Don't throw the baby and the bath water away. One collapse in Ikoyi cannot represent the whole of Nigeria.

Here we go again with Whataboutism.

This is supposed to be a so-called highbrow part of Lagos, yet there are no building standards, because they are failing in Europe and USA , we should also fail in Nigeria.

I don't know about Nigeria, but the building standards in Lagos is appalling and that can be linked directly to Tinubu and his governors.

Lagos is not a state where anybody should erect more than a two-storey building. The land is not strong enough to hold such structure. It's a soft, riverine ground

grin You think Lagos is one backyard somewhere or something... Lagos land holds the largest number of high-rise buildings in Nigeria and one of the most in West Africa.

I am guessing you're thinking this because it's sorrounded by water. New Orleans, Miami, L.A, are some other big cities sorrounded by water.

The case here is not an issue of a soft land. It's not a building sinking. It's an outright collapse.

your uncle is not wealthy and doesn't know shit. How many high rise buildings do we have in Benin and Ghana? Nigerian engineers are some of the best brains in Africa. Building collapse mainly because of greed.

On the contrary, 95% of the buildings have one form of approval or the other. If you know the number of agencies that will be.on your case before you lay one block, you would not say what you have just said.

If it is possible to get approval before urinating, LASG will want to give sushi approval. The monitoring spirits from the state and local governments na winch.
