@OP I have two questions..

1. How come he had the exact same bag as yours at the spot?

2. Didn't you check your items before collecting the bag from the police officer? you must be a very careless person if you didn't.

My best guess is that he planted a stolen phone in your bag and removed the valuables he saw in the bag.. they'll likely track the phone to your end or get you arrested for "stealing" the phone if you meet him privately, then he'd extort even more from you.

Like good NLers have said, take the phone to the state police command alongside a lawyer to clear yourself. Too many bad people in the force now and it's unfortunate.

Get a lawyer ,go to a "reputable looking" police station, write a statement ,drop his phone and beat it. He is probably donning your shoes as we speak and your USB cord in the bin.

Those cops are bastards. Please don't return the phone. It's an Android phone, once you flash it and erase the information, it can't never be tracked. He used 3k to give away his phone.
Even iphone 13 wey we pay 40k for to track, the police couldn't track it, not to talk of useless android.

Just dump his sim into the nearest river or dusbin.

If you try and return it, he can rope you and arrest you. Person wey wan extort you for nothing before. He would now have all the power to arrest you if you dare return that phone.

He probably siezed it from an innocent who couldn't pay his bail on something the innocent didn't do.

Then, sell the phone off or you can start using it. You are safe.

By the way, check if he has a Facebook page, I'll dm you now. I need his Facebook name/details/contact information and where he stays.
Most of those bagas put that on their Facebook page.

Most of the people that are telling you to return it haven't been extorted by the police before, they don't know what it's like to be accused and robbed for something you didn't do.

Dumb, very dumb assertion

Good day Nairalanders, I need your advice.
I had an encounter with a police officer yesterday along Ibadan-Abeokuta road. I will keep it brief and concise.

I boarded a bus from Ibadan to Abeokuta yesterday afternoon. Somewhere around Odeda, our bus was stopped at a police check point. I was apprehended by the officer who asked me to unlock my phone for him. I did as instructed and next he called me a cyber criminal without any evidence to proof. He immediately demanded I paid him 500k or I will be arrested and detained. I told him I can give him only 5k because I had a very important thing to do and I wouldn't want him to waste any of my precious time. The officer agreed and eventually I gave him cash of 3k because he didn't accept transfer for obvious reasons.

Before he searched my phone, he seized my bag and a nylon containing my shoes and my iPhone usb cord.

I unfortunately missed my bus because of delay, so I needed to board another bus immediately, so the officer helped me to stop a bus. He then handed me my bag and nylon. I was so pissed off and tried to cool off my head with a short nap. On getting to Abeokuta, I checked if the contents of my bag and nylon was intact but to my greatest surprise, I found a big android phone belonging to the police officer inside the nylon instead of my shoe and usb. He had unfortunately giving me a wrong nylon containing his own phone.

I have the phone with me now and I'm sincerely not willing to give it back. He has been calling and I don't know if I should change my mind.

What should I do guys? I'm confused.
Return it back I repeat return it back not for anything but for you to be at peace with yourself afterall

After the horrible experience you had with him, you must be clinically insane to return the phone to him. You should have no mercy for a corrupt police thug!

Forget about your phone and the USB cord he has. Reset the phone and sell it! After all, he bought it with money he extorted from other innocent people.

The chances of him meeting you again are very slim. Even if you two happen to cross paths, the chances of him recognizing you are zero, because he interacts with a large number of people on a daily basis.

Check the phone for his personal details and other bad misconduct you stubbled on his phone, and arrange some boys to collect your money back. Then destroy the phone including the panel.

Don't ever return the phone to him oo..

If the phone had spent the night with you while switched on, they will definitely track it and find you. The will find you because to the tracking will show where you slept and baring, a hotel you would have most likely slept at home. They will get you through this, and bros,500k no go dey enough to solve the wahala for you.
Make sure to record any further conversation you have with the police and put as much info from the stopsearch/extortion issue. Then like people have been saying, go to a senior police officer to report. SENIOR ONE OH

If you don't have much time to waste on returning the the phone because it involves taking the phone to the their HQ

1, KINDLY OPENED (UNSCREW) THE PHONE

2, REMOVE THE BATTERY (THE GPS, OR TRIANGULATION FOR TRACKING PURPOSE WON'T WORK)

3, IT ALL YOURS, YOU CAN START BY SELLING THE BATTERY.

4, SELLING THE CALIBRATOR..

A BIG ANDROID PHONE SCREEN COST NOT LESS THAN 9K WHICH IS FOR YOUR SHOE

THE CALIBRATOR COST 2500, WHICH IS FOR YOUR TIME WASTED

THE BATTERY FOLLOW COME, WHICH IS FOR THE IPHONE CHARGER.

PANEL, SELL IT AFTER 6 MONTHS 6K WHICH IS THE INTEREST OF INVESTING 3,000 NAIRA INTO THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE STOCK 200% INTEREST FOR Six months of investment and thank me later
