hi friends. on feb 8th i bought a train ticket online for 75P and i was scheduled to use transpennie express for my journey. i got to the train station late and i missed transpennie express. i told the train station officials about it and they said i can wait for another train going to my destination, the next train came 30mins after and it was cross country train service. i boarded and while on train i was asked for my ticket , which i showed but has transpennie express on it and also i wasnt with my student discount card. today 6th april, they reached out to me offering an administrative reconciliation of 175P or they drag me to magistrate court. pls guys what can i do?

Good morning elders,

Please I would like to find out if this is discrimination or if I’m just overreacting. The gist is, I tried to order a laptop worth £800+ from John Lewis using the PayPal pay in 3 option. Mind you I’ve used this feature multiple times on other stores without issues. Anyway, John Lewis sent me an email saying the order has been cancelled because I failed security check. I called John Lewis to confirm why this happened and the customer service rep told me that it’s probably because I used paypal but I should either try again or pay at once. I decided to try again, same PayPal and the same thing happened. Now here’s where it got interesting, I randomly decided to go through my LinkedIn and noticed that a staff of John Lewis in their frauds department had gone through my LinkedIn Profile. I didn’t think anything of it and since I needed a new laptop urgently, I decided to just pay at once and order it with my debit card, which I did and approved the payment on my Barclays app. However the same thing happened again; I was rejected a third time. So the fact that a staff from their frauds department went through my page and I still got rejected a third time is giving me signals that they concluded that I must be a fraudster or something perhaps because I’m black African because how do I get rejected a third time for trying to pay for a service with instant debit from my account that has more than enough funds for the laptop. I’ve spoken to John Lewis about this and about a staff from their fraud unit going through my LinkedIn page and they keep feigning clueless and they said they’ll contact me but they haven’t. My friend thinks I should speak to a lawyer about it but I think that’s a bit intense. Should I just ignore and move on from this or should I report this as consumer discrimination. I’m confused.

I tell people... UK is not easy too. The hussling is hard here and no money tree to pluck as some think in naija

What of the money that you brought form naija as maintenance figure usually cover 9 months .. That should sustain you for months

That been said find the local agency in your area. I am sure there are warehouse or care jobs that you can get shifts. Even at 4 days a week school, it 7 days in a week so you have 3 days to work up to 20 hours. Weather conditions doesn't mean much. You have to brace it up, warmer days are coming. ... as for mental health well adult life is not easy anywhere. You gat to get strong , life abroad is not easy. It time we start telling the true narrative. Many think life here is so easy

Asylum is very difficult to get approved ...on what basis would they give u

Lol...because you are black. Do you have evidence to show the white were given. Until you have data to show all their rejections and what their race were . I doubt that will fly in any court case.

Lawyer will just chop your money as their services are not free. It still at the discretion of any company to issue a line of credit.

If you want to pay full payment... if John Lewis no work which yes that is odd . Maybe you walk into a store

Try to negotiate the cost with them without going to court - explain what happened, I doubt that this would change a thing because it is your responsibility to ensure that you get to the train station on time or that you have the right ticket. You're already classified as a fare evader once you get a fine.

Your intention doesn't matter in this situation as the provider will most likely try to prove that you purposely set out to evade paying the right fare because you didn't want to pay any extra outside of the original ticket that you bought for another train service.

If they aren't open to negotiations, please just pay ASAP and ensure that you have the right ticket or don't miss your train next time. It is expensive but they don't joke with their money and won't be nice have this on your record which will be the case if it goes to court. You'll have to declare it in future visa and most work applications, if that applies to you.

Perhaps read the last line of my write up, then google consumer discrimination and Types of discrimination. Even John Lewis acknowledged that a staff going through my social media profile during a purchase is not proper practice. I understand that we Africans can be very passive when it comes to issues about race but it does mess some people up mentally when it appears that you are refused a service because of how you look.

Good day gurus here!

Please I am trying to book a flight from Nigeria to Leeds and I see it's difficult to get a one way flight.

Please do you suggest I fly to London Heathrow first?

If yes, is it advisable to go by train from London to Leeds as I noticed it's a little above one hour ride and connecting flights have long wait periods before flight and I do not want to get there in the evening as it's a first time trip.

How can I safely book the train trip?

Secondly, is it advisable to book through travel agents like wakanow as the price there is in Naira contrary to the prices on the airline sites that are in dollars.

To each it own.....but I can tell you for free, when you start to toll a line were you think everything that happens to you is because of how you look....... It a very dark path to follow, because every other sense of logic becomes coloured by colour . So you check google. Facebook, the Internet and you see what you want to see ....rightly or wrongly

You have no single evidence that this same day they didn't do exactly the same to a German, a British, a Russian ... no single evidence but you think that is passive if you don't walk down this line.

Good morning good people. Pls I need your opinion to save cost. I came to uk for masters in January as a single guy. My fiancee is still in nigeria and will like to travel back home to tie the knot and bring her here. Considering the cost of psw for 2, is it rather better we make the process while I am still a student or when I have gotten my psw (hoping that we would have dodged the cost of her own psw) which will be around this time next year ?
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Broomstick01: 10:23am On Apr 06, 2022
Try your best to keep a clean record.. you'll need it later in your journey .. avoid their court case, as if you lose you may end up paying more. You're already being charged more than what the initial fee can be , don't add more to it .

Just pay the fine.... .. You boarded a train, without a valid ticket.......

If you attend court, the fine would increase ...... £175 + court day charge + additional fine .......

Take it on your shoulders ...... A bitter financial lesson learnt. .......

My advice:
1) cancel the thought of abandoning your studies. This will enable you to
2) look for those without experience before they started working and ask them how they went about it.

Instead of channelling your energy on why you cannot work and school in harsh weather conditions, channel it to how you can cope with working and schooling in harsh weather conditions.

I feel your story is sugar-coated because all the reasons you gave for your inability to work are not tenable. Inexperience, guarantor, weather condition, mental health issues, all these will still be at play even with asylum so how will you overcome them then?

Something similar happened to me, wanted to order Apple MacBook and some other accessories from Amazon and it was declined severally. I later reached out to their customer service and I was told I have to open an Amazon business account for the total sum of money of my orders with other security questions involved. Me didn't have strength for all those paparazzi, I jejely walked into Apple's physical store to make the purchase.

Hello davide470,

Do you have an idea if the Binance currency switch from Naira to Pounds is till valid?

Considering the options of transferring some of Naira assets on Binance directly to a UK account without the aboki pathway.

Thanks

It’s also an Apple MacBook oh that I tried to order. There’s no John Lewis or Apple Store in the town where I live, and ordering from Apple directly takes 2 weeks when I have assignments due like yesterday. I really just want them to give a formal apology for going through my social media page as it can really interpreted in so many ways.

You come UK, finish your money on rent start think of ways to live legally if you abandon your studies.

Canada is now denying alot of Nigerian students visa because statistics shows that the first thing they do once they reach there is abandon their studies. Most times, school route is seen as an avenue to japa sha.

I used them in November. Wonderful service. good aircrafts. But the only drawback is long hours. But they will give you a good hotel to sleep in Cairo (Novotels) plus dinner and breakfast, including free transportation to and from airport. I will use them again this Easter

Please do not be ignorant! A company going through your social media page before you are offered a service rings bells for discrimination. It is NOT allowed. Read up a little to expand your knowledge on the laws of the country you live in.
