Good day gurus here!

Please I am trying to book a flight from Nigeria to Leeds and I see it's difficult to get a one way flight.

Please do you suggest I fly to London Heathrow first?

If yes, is it advisable to go by train from London to Leeds as I noticed it's a little above one hour ride and connecting flights have long wait periods before flight and I do not want to get there in the evening as it's a first time trip.
How can I safely book the train trip?
Secondly, is it advisable to book through travel agents like wakanow as the price there is in Naira contrary to the prices on the airline sites that are in dollars.
fly to Manchester and use taxi, bus or train from manchester airport to Leeds. By taxi it is 50 mns to Leeds.
If u have so much bags, pls use national express from manchester airport as they have a busstop in the airport or take taxi home. Taxi appropriate fare is 70 to 80 pounds. Google A1 taxi and call them when u land.
Again I do not advise train trips if you have boxes with you. The struggle and rush and all not worth it.
Wakanow is safe. Only use them if you are sure of your travel dates and wont make any changes to these as any change after u have paid for ticket, u wont smile

national express is the bus/coach service .. there’ll be heathrow airport terminals to leeds, manchester airport to leeds etc. you can ride from the airports, you do not need to go into the city.
trainline you can buy train tickets

Good morning elders,

Please I would like to find out if this is discrimination or if I’m just overreacting. The gist is, I tried to order a laptop worth £800+ from John Lewis using the PayPal pay in 3 option. Mind you I’ve used this feature multiple times on other stores without issues. Anyway, John Lewis sent me an email saying the order has been cancelled because I failed security check. I called John Lewis to confirm why this happened and the customer service rep told me that it’s probably because I used paypal but I should either try again or pay at once. I decided to try again, same PayPal and the same thing happened. Now here’s where it got interesting, I randomly decided to go through my LinkedIn and noticed that a staff of John Lewis in their frauds department had gone through my LinkedIn Profile. I didn’t think anything of it and since I needed a new laptop urgently, I decided to just pay at once and order it with my debit card, which I did and approved the payment on my Barclays app. However the same thing happened again; I was rejected a third time. So the fact that a staff from their frauds department went through my page and I still got rejected a third time is giving me signals that they concluded that I must be a fraudster or something perhaps because I’m black African because how do I get rejected a third time for trying to pay for a service with instant debit from my account that has more than enough funds for the laptop. I’ve spoken to John Lewis about this and about a staff from their fraud unit going through my LinkedIn page and they keep feigning clueless and they said they’ll contact me but they haven’t. My friend thinks I should speak to a lawyer about it but I think that’s a bit intense. Should I just ignore and move on from this or should I report this as consumer discrimination. I’m confused.
Are you using a credit card?

No, I used a debit card! I even approved the payment on my bank app and they held the money for a while. Anyway my family members here have told me to file a formal complaint on email to them as it goes against consumer rights.

Your transaction was most likely declined the first time due to an automated check that takes place when you apply for credit, which is what PayPal's 3 in 1 is, irrespective of whether the PayPal account is tied to a debit or a credit card. Thereafter, a human being probably took a look at the situation and decided to uphold that decision, and that's probably why the subsequent transactions were also declined.

Of course, the grounds for deciding to uphold the decision can be questioned (if na Mr. John Smith instead of Mazi Emeka Okoro, wouldn't you have given the transaction a second chance?), but how provable that could be is anyone's guess.

Obviously only someone who works in a fin services fraud department can speak to the generally used methods in such cases, but regarding the appropriateness of their looking at your LinkedIn profile, my opinion is that since it is public, there is nothing wrong done by accessing publicly available information. I look at LinkedIn profiles all the time, and even when it is not specifically a recruitment situation concerning an job seeker.

You could file a complaint of course, but I would think that the fraud department can use the automated Experian or whatever check it was as grounds to show it wasnt random discrimination. Proving discrimination is not easy, because you need empirical evidence that a different decision was taken in a similar situation involving someone of a different racial or socio-economic background.

Please do not be ignorant! A company going through your social media page before you are offered a service rings bells for discrimination. It is NOT allowed. Read up a little to expand your knowledge on the laws of the country you live in.

Secondly, in your shoes, I would ease off on the use of PayPal's 3 in 1 as well no matter how small the purchase.
No-one really knows what algorithms they use for determining how much credit to give to people, so it is possible that the "computer" decided that 800 quid in 3 instalments was too much for them to give you, or out of character from your previous pattern of spending or that you're using it too frequently or whatever. Whatever the case, if you've got any other major transactions you want to charge, I'd advise you get a purchase credit card with a reasonably long interest-free period and put it on that.

Funny enough, I figured that was the case, the purchase was probably too large even though they locked the total of the amount in my account and left it on pending. It’s the debit card purchase that I found to be upsetting. I’ll do as you have advised on the credit card when I’m fully eligible. Thanks a lot

URGENT
I should be airbound for UK by tomorrow evening
I have weighed my luggage and the total aside hand luggage is 76kg whereas I am expected to carry 23kg x 2. (46kg)
now I have an excess of about 30kg.
I am not willing to drop my foodstuff or cloth .
how can I pay or go about it.
Turkish airline says 160GBP.
thats much.

GURUS is there any way around this.
someone told me booking for extra luggage online is cheaper. but that 160GBP dosent seem to me like 'cheap'

If you don't want to pay so much, drop some stuff. Many of the things we insist on carrying eventually turn out to be very avoidable luggage. By this time next year, you'd be advising others same

Also might I add that going through someone’s profile on a third party app such as a Social media app goes against UK’s data protection policy under GDPR. I work in customer service and if I did that and they found out, I would be fired.

That may be the case in your customer service role, but as I earlier pointed out, it might not be the case in fraud prevention, and we don't know what methods they are authorized to use when conducting their investigations. Where they were not authorized to view your public profile in this instance, it would be a very incompetent person who would have left that trail for you to see and I would happily write out a dismissal letter for them right now were it to be my organisation.

Book to London then use National Express Coach to Leeds for £20 or less. National Express has an office in Heathrow or you book online. A train would be more expensive

Yes, Wakanow is okay, from my experience.

Safe trip.

Good morning good people. Pls I need your opinion to save cost. I came to uk for masters in January as a single guy. My fiancee is still in nigeria and will like to travel back home to tie the knot and bring her here. Considering the cost of psw for 2, is it rather better we make the process while I am still a student or when I have gotten my psw (hoping that we would have dodged the cost of her own psw) which will be around this time next year ?

This should be a personal decision actually. My thoughts are that if you postpone the wedding till after your PSW ish, it doesn't mean she will join you for free afterwards so I don't see the point. She will still be charged for Visa, IHS, etc. maybe less though. Your concern should be more of the best way to bring her soonest. Bonus: Spouse's earnings can be life saving if she won't mind working, although, I don't mean you should marry for the extra income o.

hi friends. on feb 8th i bought a train ticket online for 75P and i was scheduled to use transpennie express for my journey. i got to the train station late and i missed transpennie express. i told the train station officials about it and they said i can wait for another train going to my destination, the next train came 30mins after and it was cross country train service. i boarded and while on train i was asked for my ticket , which i showed but has transpennie express on it and also i wasnt with my student discount card. today 6th april, they reached out to me offering an administrative reconciliation of 175P or they drag me to magistrate court. pls guys what can i do?

You can either contest it (by writing to them), as you were told by a staff to board the next train or you pay up and save yourself stress.

Can train station (Network Rail) staff bind a train company (Cross Country)? I don't think so.
I've had a train cancelled a couple of times (same TransPennine, on my way from Manchester to Edinburgh, I think they're having issues on that route), and the first thing I did was to call them and they said to board any TransPennine train. When I pointed out that there was none going direct, they told me to get a ticket for any train service, then apply to them for a refund of the extra monies I paid. They didn't tell me to just jump on any train, obviously that can't be done, so even if the Network Rail staff did say that, it's not tenable.
