Yes it’s a form of credit and PayPal offers that form of payment on JL because it’s approved on their store and like I have said, that was NOT my issue with JL, I stated my issues with them clearly in my first post. For those who do not understand it, I have 2 issues with them.

1. A staff using his personal account to run through my social media page after the same transaction failed twice.
2. Getting refused the service a third time after paying with my Debit card and approving the purchase on my bank app.

A quick call to verify my identity would have been sufficient since I made the first call to them to complain. It’s that simple.

That’s the thing, I’m not even fighting them, I’ve taken my money elsewhere and I’m happy. I just asked if I was overreacting or not and some people have been making the most ignorant comments I’ve ever seen while some have been speaking critically which is good. Anyway, it’s a public forum so what I see is what I get.

To the people who have constantly made my post a credit issue when I clearly stated multiple times that it wasn’t the case. I’ve ordered the same laptop from Curry’s (without opening an account with them) using the PayPal pay in 3 option and the order was approved, I’ve been debited and the order has been dispatched. Please let the credit talk rest, that was not my issue with JL. And I did not "apply for credit" with PayPal, it’s a service open to everyone without any application on select stores.

We can rest now.
Curry’s sold to you Despite/Inspite of being Black, & African.
Great!
Turns out John Lewis did not refuse to sell due to your black ness and African ness. Yes?

What is wrong with checking LinkedIn profile if I may ask? Canada Immigration do it all the time to verify job experiences.
It is publicly held information, so anyone can access it.
Regarding cancelling debit card order, once a transaction is flagged as likely fraudulent, subsequent transactions will be denied. There will likely be a red flag that made them cancel the transaction.

I am sure JL don't care whether you are red or white, their first aim is to sell their goods. The more the better. However, they have lost a lot of money to fraudulent transactions, hence why they are very careful with transactions that involve large amount.

Just like you said “Canada immigration” this is the UK. Not Canada mate.

No 2 happens more often than you think. Some years ago I went to Ba Heathrow desk so not even online. And was paying for some tickets. Despite I put my pin the payment was declined..... I called the bank after been on hold for almost one hour and the hold was release and I was able to pay for the tickets

Highly inconvenient to me (especially the parking fees i paid that day, I was furious) but the amount of fraud that happens daily , I can understand that they are doing their job . Few years ago I shared here how someone fraudulently used my card. The person had a swell time, one week of spending spending until all the money finished before he or she rested. I was given my money back but someone paid the price for it . The bank. Shebi I am glad I am in the UK, if this was naija would I have gotten my money back in full ?.. I doubt that

This is why when I read your first post, I can see how inconvenient it can be and I sympathise but they are only doing their job . I could easily have said the bank declined my card because I was profiled as it was four business class ticket to nigeria so maybe it because I am black or white or it because the destination was an African county . Although really the bank didn't know the details of the booking just the amount....but you can always draw logic when you are upset or inconvenienced.... however when I remember how someone swiped my card unchecked for a whole week some years ago. I just calmed down , let them do their hold or check or whatever and paid the expensive Heathrow parking and went on my way.

Yep. Buy now pay later is a form of credit. In actual fact, it is #credit.

On the JL, PayPal in 3 and OP, the credit is with the later 2. JL ain't part of the credit.
I've penned a detailed in the last page.

Sure, we all have learnt one or two on this wonderful discourse. And it's been insightfully enlightening.

I agree, If you have been a victim of fraudsters, you will understand the importance of proper checks.

My bank will not even release large sum of money outside norm until they have called me to confirm. Pending the confirmation, all other transactions will be blocked.

So how is Canada different from UK if I may ask?

In addition, based on legitimate interest, GDPR allows personal data to be processed for fraud prevention, how much more personal data you intentionally put on a social media site.

Not to start a whole new line of discussion, but they do (or did) sometimes profile such destinations, especially Nigeria.
Is it racism? Not really - if you had been going to Kenya, Mauritius or SA for instance, which are not tagged countries were fraud is prevalent and are able to be included in the international financial ecosystem and have full PayPal accounts for instance - most likely that block wouldn't have been placed.

For me even if they do that is ok as well ..... if that would help keep my money safe then fine

It like the issue of stop and search... a lot of the stabbings in London is black on black. So I support the stop and search even if it you are stopping more of black people, after all based on the data the death is higher in our community.

However because of how inconvenience if you are stopped and political correctness , people are shouting don't do stop and search , it is racial profiling but aren't we higher in the stabbing department.....

Ok now no stop and search then young boys are roaming the streets with knifes and stabbing continues . You can't always cut your cake and eat it .

Another matter don come. grin
This is racial profiling and I have a huge problem with that.
Are you saying that crime is higher among black people than others?
The Met's own stats showed that black people were stopped more of the time than their share of the population, while the people actually found to be carrying knives most of the time on being stopped were not black.

I will find that report, it was published last year.

I don't know of other cities as I am a londoner so I follow mainly london news .

In 2017 two thirds of knife crime offenders under 25 in London were black or minority ethnic, according to the Mayor of London’s Office for Policing and Crime.

Two third abeg is high enough for my ears. Please I am happy to be stopped and delayed to where I am going , if it helps catch and stop someone with a knife . It very heart breaking to be a parent of a child who died due to stabbing.

Most of those reports are not adjusted for socio-economic factors.
Simplistically, the violent crime rates are higher in deprived areas (nationwide, not only in London), and unfortunately 70% of persons in income poverty in London are ethnic minorities. It's the same in Manchester or up north where all the Bangladeshis and Pakistanis are in places like Bradford.

Thanks oo!. May we never lose this our hard earned pennies that we have gathered small small ,lol. Money not easy to find at all . Glad to hear you sorted the ordering of the laptop. Nice one

I am not sure but I saw a travel agency online and called to buy a ticket to naija some months in advance...... One the day I went to naija was when the person went shopping so I feel it must be from that travel agency because I don't remember giving my detail to anyone else. I probably wasn't paying full attention and was maybe asked more details than necessary when I was buying that ticket over the phone and why was it not done immediately (the fraud), why was it done when I was not in the country

I later received some invoices of the purchases to my home address and it had the buyer Amin Khan but my name on the bill to . Probably a fake name too and the travel agent had a slight Indian accent hence why I drew the link but I am not sure for a fact

My sister works in the Fraud Prevention Unit (FPU) of a FinTech in Europe. She said and I quote - once you see any transaction that could be flagged as fraudulent, there is no limit of what publicly available information (LinkedIn, FB, Twitter, Instagram etc.) to check so as to mitigate the risk as long as the info is used solely for that purpose and nothing else. Once a transaction failed security check, they go all out. The ideal thing is to pause that payment channel till it is certified ok by the FPU and before it is certified, DD must me carried out.

The OP can file a case which is well within his/her rights, but a FPU officer will squash it within 5 mins. There is no discrimination in Fraud Prevention (her words).

Very correct, there was a time that some amount of cash was paid into my account . When going through my credit report i noticed that the fraud investigative department did a check on me. Certain things can can flag an investigation its normal.

Lol.
I read somewhere that someone's asylum claim in similar circumstances was denied because the court said that he'd claimed to be gay, but had not provided evidence of having a boyfriend or seeking one all the while he'd been in the UK waiting for his asylum claim to be decided (a long time, the way these things generally happen) and free to live freely as he chose.

So for those interested in this asylum path, the time to start swiping your credit cards in gay bars and engaging in PDAs with your own gender in the street starts now.

but one indian man won a court case agaunst ukvi for something similar, something in the lines of not all adults are in relationshps or seek relationship 100 percent of the time. do quote me, i saw it on news or somewhere
