Never say never..... anything is possible

When there is a job opening they would invite for interview based on Cv received , what if all other applicants are not from big 4, does it mean they would now leave that post open... then that their loss in head count so I believe it also based on what available ....

If the desirable is not available the available becomes the desirable

I told him same and advise him to give it all his best. I believe they would have reviewed his CV before shortlisting him.

To be honest, not really. I think I started opening the windows some months back or maybe when I even first saw the sign of wetness on the roof. The before me open windows like maybe twice a month during cleaning (tiled floors not rug). But being honest i don’t think I opened it before February (from November we moved in) and that is why I am thinking I should maybe try the dehumidifier first. I no go lie I tire, but I want to first get a solution for my family first before deciding on my next move with regards the house.

Air out the house everyday. Keep all the vents in the windows permanently open. In each double glazed window, there's a small vent usually at the top and sometimes it's at the bottom, slide it across and it should open the vent.

For example our bathroom windows are permanently cracked open. And our bedroom windows are open on a latch especially as we also have black out blinds and thermal curtains. UK homes are built to retain heat but that also causes dampness and mustiness.

Do that for about a week before spending money on a dehumidifier. In fact, spend that money on a electric airer. It's coming to winter and you'll definitely start drying more clothes inside.

See link to a reasonably priced one - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Homefront-Electric-Heated-Clothes-Indoor/dp/B07P5NQKNM/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=heated+clothes+airer&qid=1662934803&sr=8-7

Hi bro,

Is it possible to land a big 4 job in UK without any prior experience with big 4 in Nigeria? i am asking because i had a friend who got an invite for advisory services with KPMG but skeptical about his chances owing to the aforementioned reason. The guy is a chartered accountant and an assistant manager with a coy in Nigeria.

Very possible, am an example. One you've been invited to an interview, one leg is in. It's left to you to prove yourself during the interview and that's it. That you got an interview invite is a big deal. Prepare and study what their competency framework is and relate it your experience. Good luck to your friend.

My tenancy agreement has only my name on it, it doesn’t have my wife’s name. Can I use it to supporting my mother-in-law’s visa application from Nigeria in terms of accommodation.

Well, firstly, it's very unlikely thst you'd get an apartment within "a day or two".

But more importantly, what I was asking is the kind of apartment you are looking for long term. I know someone who is renting out rooms in a shared apartment in Cardiff.

Lastly, if you're trying to save on cost, I'd advise you to check neighbouring Towns cos Cardiff is the most expensive City in Wales.

What if the person has not worked in any audit firm before?

If you haven't got any audit experience, you stand very little chance of getting an experienced role in the audit arm..and I do not think they will offer him EL opportunities.

However, they also have an accounting arm, he can try his luck there. They just do not have as much vacancies as an audit.

One advise I have for your friend is this - Confidence! He should be confident in his responses, they saw something in his CV that piqued their interest, so he should step into that interview knowing he can kill it at the job. He should also remember that he’s equally interviewing them, so he needs to ask all the right questions at the end of the interview. All the best to your friend, he’s got this!!

Hi Ticha, thanks for the info. I have a similar heater in the bathroom for clothes, But it is connected to the central heating and since we have not been having the heaters on cos of summer (even tho glasgow didn’t have summer this year) hence why we have not been using.

Have been airing the house and done some intentional cleaning on the window edges that could house those dust and all that. There was improvement yesterday during the day and at night too. I believe with more airing, and the Wednesday carpet washing will add more to the air quality.

Ebac is supposedly the best dehumidifier though a bit pricey. Where are you based? I have one that is now surplus to requirement. Message me for details.

Hi Peerielass thanks for the offer. Glasgow based, south of Glasgow.

Not having worked in a big 4 or audit firm is no barrier. When I was appointed the first time in a big 4, I was coming from govt. Second time, I was coming from consulting. I'm outta: Pay my dues!!
Understanding how the big 4 (and typical large audit firm) operate and composed is important. Aside the 'audit' arm, there are so many others; advisory (like for me). Some still have technology deployment even post #Enron
Valuable responses below.
hyzich:
What if the person has not worked in any audit firm before?
idee91:

If he works with a smaller firm(big 10), he stands a chance. I know a guy from PKF Kenya that got a manager role in a big4, another from an indigenous firm in South Africa got an assistant manager role. Just have the relevant experience, package your CV well and be prepared to defend your CV during the interview stages.

There are a whole lot of jobs out there that are not care jobs..
If you use indeed. com you will see jobs around your location like warehouse, store assistant, cleaner etc…
Use these as a starting point.
You haven’t got a UK licence if not na to register for Uber, deliveroo, justeat, post office, Amazon or Parcel force.

Errrm with your Nigerian license if you've just gotten in you can do an amazon flex van delivery driver(provided you're good with bus/fans)

I will reach out to him but you haven't answered my question on the type of apartment. Are you alone or with family?

I'm hoping you don't embarass me o if I do link you up cos he's had some terrible experiences with some Nigerians and I don't want to refer anyone and spoil the small goodwill I have with him.

No, preference will be for having a background in consulting. But if he can prove his worth, he would be fine without consulting experience.

TheGuyFromHR:

For part-time jobs, try Royal Mail (Angard Staffing - I think they should have started their Christmas casual recruitment about now), Amazon (pay is good these days, up to 12 quid or so), for full-time jobs; Indeed.com, Totaljobs, and https://jobs.theguardian.com/ (for those who remember Tuesday Guardian in the late 90s and early 00s), the supermarkets as usual (browse and apply online and try walk-ins to local branches), and see if you've got a Reed or Blue Arrow in Leicester, walk in there, and where all else fails, let your husband try an SIA certification then work security, Xmas is coming up and there will definitely be demand.

Good day, I'm interested

Welcome to the abroad. You didn't indicate visa you came in with. I'm assuming student? You usually can't do any work without your NI and you require DBS for only a few jobs. You can do volunteer jobs for a few weeks as you have been advised and that will count as part of your UK experience.
I wish you all the best.

NB- I have a 5 page document i titled "First 5 years in the UK as a Nigerian Expatriate (Migrant)". Although it's for skilled workers, others may find it useful. Let me know via pm if you need it.

Hi House,

For someone who's working in central London (Zone 1). What's the most cost-effective place to live currently?

Some areas being considered;
- Reading (benefiting from new Elizabeth line)
- Maidenhead
- St Neots
- Luton
- Watford etc.

I have already done some research but looking for more "qualitative" inputs based on personal experience.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I would not live in Luton by choice. Unless I can afford to live in the villages on the proper outskirts.
