Igwe9: What savings? Reason why the APC government is removing subsides now is because...there isn't any money for nothing. The time there would have been savings from subsidy removal was in 2012. Right now, we was using loans to pay for subsidy. It was that bad. |

tuzle: We don't have enough money for anything in this country, because we use oil money for all our needs, and the money is not enough Add the fact that years of looting and padi-padi government causes the treasury to be even scantier. And here we are. We can pretend we have enough money, or we can face facts and force our government to diversify our economy. |

UgoFly: I live in another man's country also, where nothing comes for free...i must have imagined how it was hard for them decades or century ago when their government came up with same idea. Today, they are better off, things are bad everywhere, but the infrastructure they have in place lessens the burden on govt spending and eases life for the hardworking citizens. To get to the desired level many of of us run abroad to for better life, sacrifices has to be made. I will start questioning only when things never got better after all plans and hands are on deck. Practically, in 1999, Lagos population was about 4M and the GDp at 600M, what happened was increased taxes, we had fewer available job as well as at then.. By 2007, the population had doubled, more jobs, more businesses, expansions in all sectors. These massive improvement was driven by the natural forces activated by taxes etc. The only sad thing is, despite the massive population that has tripled since then, the infrastructure wasn't increasing at same pace, this has left a deficit. Lagos needed a modern over-hauling and re-planning to match it's ever increasing population. The only thing that will help Lagos in the coming years is proportionate growth in other States. 1 Like |

Nigerians would had left PDP to still continue governing the country at least during PDP administration the economy was good...no much of hardship, inflation, .. foodstuffs was not too expensive at that time...but when APC government was voted into power... everything scattered..APC turned Nigeria upside down... hunger, hardship, suffering, inflation... nawaoooo 1 Like |

nairalanda1:Why 2012? In 2022 Russia Ukraine war drove the crude to over 120uss per barrel, what did APC achieve with it? If you employ two staff to work for you, one is making 1m dollars a month and spending 800k dollars and the other is making 400k usd in a month and spending 500k dollars by borrowing extra 100k dollars , who would you keep? Come out of this lazy and the most irrational way of reasoning. |
Re: FG Increases Unity Schools’ Fees From ₦45,000 To ₦100,000 by nairalanda1(m): 7:25am On Jul 22, 2023 |
Igwe9: We had sustained high income from oyel money, plus debt forgiveness from 2006 meant that our cumulative debt then was not too high.(we had borrowed some since 2006, but we also had some savings). In 2022 Russia Ukraine war drove the crude to over 120uss per barrel, what did APC achieve with it? From 2014-2021, we had sustained low oil prices below 100 dollars, sometimes below 20-30 dollars...especially in 2015/16 and 2020/21. Nigeria needs oil to be at $130 to have enough money. That's our fiscal breakeven oil price, and it is like that because of our large populaiton. (It is also a big reason why I consider the APC government a failure , as I do other past governments because they rely too much on oil and the oil price never favours us, therefore we got to diversify which they do not. And to be honest, it annoys me.). As a reuslt we took loans to keep our heads above water. To the point that today, we are using 99% of our revenue to pay for debts. Debt management office literally is screaming at Tinubu not to borrow any more money, and IMF and World Bank are also on our case. Even this recent increase in oil money did nothing. Debt has to be paid off first. It is a characteristic of oil rich countries. When the oil prices crash, the debt taken on to prevent losses is so high that a rise in oil prices (unless there is money put aside during times of plenty)...is usually swallowed up by the debt. See how badly we are run, oga? |

nairalanda1:So we now agreed that our problem did not start from 2012, Jonathan wanted to remove subsidy then but this present government ganged up against it and the saving you are talking about was used to settle subsidy, meaning, everyone benefited from it? Fast forward to 2023, subsidy is removed so that we can have more money to invest in education, health care and infrastructure, right? Why tax us more on school fees? Exchange rate is been adjusted to get more naira for the government, right? All the social benefits for the citizens have been withdrawn by the government to save more money for the government, right? How come we are not hearing anything on measures taken by government to also cut down on their own personal spending? |

Igwe9: Well, considering that I backed subsidy removal in 2012....you can complain to other people, not me. Fast forward to 2023, subsidy is removed because to have money to invest in education, health care and infrastructure, right?[/quote] See how badly we have been run, oga? That was the last sentence in my previous comment to you. Good monring. |

nairalanda1:The complain was never made to you, You got involved when you started defending Government and attributing our present predicament to 2012 forgetting that it takes a lot to keep economy stable. Atleast during that time, rate of inflation was within range. Let say tomorrow, the crude sells at 500usd per barrel, a litre of fuel will cost over N3k, hence worsen the already bad situation? If removing the subsidy will free more fund for economy, why devalue the naira? I read somewhere that black market rate touched 1000usd per naira. Nothing wrong with subsidy if properly managed and the reason we elect leader is for them to help to manage our resources on 9ur behalf and any leader that can't manage and account for the resources entrusted on them is good for nothing. Good morning |

Igwe9: Oga, I DEFENDED NO GOVERNMENT You completely misunderstood my post. You think that everyone that does not think like you is defending government? I mentioned 2012, not because I was bashing government decisions then, but because I was bashing tinubu and buhari for protesting and joining in in mass protests against the decision to remove subsidy...which led to the reversal. They knew better, yet they joined in. And in 2012, WE were in a better place to save money, but Nigerians said no to subsidy removal then. GEJ should have been strong and removed subsidy, but he listened to Nigerians, and here we are. Buhari too should have been bold enough to remove subsidy in 2015, but he played politics, and we are here. And anyway, subsidy was wrecking our economy and has been for decades. It should have gone since. That tinubu is removing it is not because he wants to, but because he has no choice. Pity he did not explain to Nigerians in 2012 why the subsidy had to go...especially as he knew better. But no, politics. Haba! Read better man. Seriously, you people should stop playing politics with everything. Not everything rotates around PDP and APC and LP. |

If I were parents, I would have asked that fees for school media be removed, because they are not using it in virtually all unity schools. The purpose of sckol media in the unity schools has been defeated long ago. therefor, no need continuing the sckol media project for parants to keep paying what all the students are not enjoying. |

Nigeria is a country where majority of her populations are on low wage but you guys won't have an issue with that. Why would income continue to be low while other expenses keep increasing and people like you will see it as fair. God forbid!!!! |
