.. because we use Nigeria's 1999 constitution which recognizes Abuja as a state for some matters.
The trap was actually set by the framers of the constitution against a certain region but bushmeat don catch the hunter.

Are you aware that in 2016 presidential election in the USA, Hilary Clinton won popular votes (simple majority) but lost what is called Electoral College which was how Trump became president because Trump won the Electoral College.

So now you know that what US doesn’t have in making Washington DC to hold the status of Abuja in their constitution, they have it in the Electoral College.

So, every constitution has its own peculiar provisions as informed by their social realities.

I’m sure that if INEC organizes the US election, they will declare the candidate who won popular votes, but lost the Electoral College, the winner and ask the candidate that won the Electoral College to “go to court”.

Ignoramus, electoral college votes in Nigeria is 25% in every state, if you can get in 25 states plus winning popular vote you'll be declared winner. In USA their electoral college votes differs from state to state. The highest electoral vote wins the election popular votes don't make the difference.

Eg if electoral college vote in lagos is 50 even if you get 1 million votes it doesn't count ,what counts is the 50 you got by winning the state, if a state like osun electoral college vote is 50 even if you win osun with 100k votes it's equivalent to lagos that is won by another candidate with 1m votes that's the different.
