This work from home thing sef... It just can't be like office settings. That team energy is just not there...

marylandcakes:
.

It depends on the individual, I get more done when I work from home. No interruptions and unnecessary chitchat from colleagues.

Lol, being in the office kind of puts me on edgeπŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚

I find my focus isn’t quite there when I'm in that environment. I'm naturally more productive in the early hours, and I prefer to dive straight into work upon waking up. The whole routine of waking, dressing, cooking, and commuting (not to mention the worry of running late) can really scatter my focus for the entire day.

Working from home allows me to accomplish more, plus I don’t have that unease that comes with someone wandering around, potentially peeping at my work. Although, I know these feelings and preferences are personal to me

Morning all.
Regardless of how people are warned before coming to UK,still majority will not listen.
UK is not a place where people own houses with 3buildings in it or over 10rooms.
Before coming either on Sponsorship, Visiting or Student route,we all say to the government accomodation provision is made or will be made.
Even people dat where born in this country wey don reach 30yrs plus are living with their parents or decide not to create family or born kids
How will a foreigner move to a different country without making provision for accomodation.
If people can book flights ahead, same shd bre for accomodation.
UK now no easy for new entrants but still majority of our people go dey come with faith.
An average accomodation for a family of 4 in London is 2bedroom flat which cost over Β£1600 with bills.
Most people coming now are coming with kids. Child care cost sef cari muscle.
Am just checking for a Nanny myself,it cost average Β£10/hr.
To see accomodation is easy as far he/she have the gbemu. Airbnb,Hotels dey there.
My first experience as parent on childcare,I went online on childcare.co.uk website,I found a childminder, she requested Β£100 borrowing even b4 she started looking after my kids,I gave her. till date, she never refund.
Even the lady na black. She even said to me that this shd he a lesson to me,that I must never leave my kids for strangers.
I made complain to d childcare website, nothing dey do for the matter. This same lady even steal, scam other white parents wey used her service.Nothing wey police do.
I know 9ja no easy, but if new entrant to UK can at least pay 2weeks-1month Rent in advance, it will be better for them and the family.
Don't rely on family and friends for UK for accomodation. Na breakfast dem go gv person.
God bless

This coming to uk without plans for accommodation has been happening since 19 kokoro.

No amount of preaching will suffice.

Dem go dey alright las las

As to changing political leanings ,Growth is great and can occur indirectly( reading others experiences) or directly( personal experience) . Either way is acceptable. Definitely welcome the refugee who is seeking safety but in general immigration has to be sensible and restricted otherwise a few countries would quickly be overwhelmed by the rest of the world seeking a form of a better life, which isn't viable.

Yes to being hospitable, but you wouldn't invite 200 guests to come live in your 3 bed mid terrace property (as an example).

Honestly am shocked to see what folks post online, make people get sense o, not all personal views should be posted. The West whether we like it or not still dictates things globally, if you desire visas or permanent status, you can’t be posting stuff against their allies or in support of their enemies.

It's difficult to see what your post is driving. We should not be more Catholic than the pope.
Freedom of speech is a strong principle in modern western societies. That is because they rightly do not want a society where everyone thinks alike. Your aired opinions are protected as far as not illegal.
Virtually every other freedom we enjoy today e.g freedom to vote, freedom to own property, freedom from slavery and women's rights e.t.c all came about because people stood rightly against entrenched ideas. Many westerners today regret their support for Iraq/Afghanistan wars and today believe they shouldn't have been hoodwinked to belive what the media told them.

LionInZion:

Yea, the reason why I posted it here. I've seen people arguing for and against, just as in the case of Russia-Ukraine. Personally, I would rather mind my business in all these international politics and crises than put my mouth in what I have little or no knowledge of, except what the media feeds us.

Freedom of expression means freedom of expression.

P.s irrespective of where you stand on the Israel/Gaza issue, it'd take alot of knee bending to overlook the apartheid visited on Palestinians. This time, even mainstream British media is circumspect. I wonder what you would say if questioned about the apartheid regime in SA which western allies supported at the time.

Hehe... I love this. Man has always been a migratory being
I remember telling someone recently that given I’ve never met a native American, I have never met an American who wasn't a migrant. At what point did folks who emigrated from Europe to Australia, NZ, America, SA become natives?
Funnily Americans and Brits would call themselves 'expats' when they migrate but others 'immigrants' when they come over.

Recently stumbled upon this video by a former Greek minister who captures the whole concept of recent human migration so eloquently

Well, that's a good one, but personal as you said. I thrive more in an office setting because the full focus is on the job, but at home there would most likely be distractions... An I am still used to holding branch key and opening the doors at 6.30am and closing by 7pm Naija style. Lol

No one is advocating for throwing the borders open without checks. We just say process asylum seekers quickly and deport the false claims like other sensible countries . Let them work while waiting so they are not a burden on the state. We will not be overwhelmed. Germany hasn't been, why should we who take in far less than them

I would say your last statement is another right-wing talking point.

We are NOWHERE near full. Less than 10% of the country is built on https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/land-use-in-england-2022/land-use-statistics-england-2022
We have 1 million job vacancies which we have no hope of filling. When was the last time someone picked your call at the council? They just dont have the staff .I dont know about you but i am tired of doing the work of 2 people. I say Let them in

The bolded suggests you were in banking in Naija. Are you still in banking or have you transitioned to a different career? If you don't mind.
I was in banking myself and hoping to transition, hence my curiosity.

Getting accomodation (studio - 3bedroom flats) , tenants need 3months payslip or P60.
How can someone who just arrived newly meet such requirements. To get guarantor sef na difficult thing. With this kind cold weather,to even waka for road na problem.
I know of a friend who arrived from 9ja that was ask to pay 1yr rent for 2bedroom flat. He had no choice than to pay it to avoid unnecessary accommodation risk or Airbnb.
Mak God bless our hustling.

I agree with the bolded re finding a way to process asylum cases quicker (but fairly and thoroughly).

I get through to my council with no issues, even when I've called to ask a question about our bins.

We still have 1m vacancies - since Brexit it seems - despite record levels of migration. The maths isn't mathing. The sustainable solution would be to encourage the economically inactive back into work where possible.

By your logic Australia and the US ought to have extremely lenient immigration policies because they certainly have more than enough land to accommodate 10x the number of immigrants that they are letting in.

Labour actually want to win the next election though and to achieve this they are adopting a firm (missjekyll might call it rightwing) stance on immigration, seeing as it is one of the biggest issues the general public has had with them.

Libdems would be a sure bet though πŸ˜‚

I cannot speak to the US and Australia as i do not have a good grasp of their issues.

But this is why we have a million vacancies and why we have no hope of filling them. TLDR currently, the majority of the economically inactive CANNOT work due to long-term health conditions and care responsibilities. They are either sick themselves or are carers. Some people on those NHS waiting lists
Would otherwise be working.
Encouraging the economically inactive into work might sound good on paper and get you daily mail headlines but seeing that people who choose not to work are in the minority, i dont see that helping to put a dent in it.The tories already know this because despite their best efforts, vacancies are climbing https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/dec/04/why-are-so-many-people-leaving-the-workforce-amid-a-uk-cost-of-living-crisis

On the contrary , immigration keeps polling as the least of voters concerns. People are more interested in the NHS and the cost of living crisis.

Dover which bears the brunt of the smallboats just switched to a labour council. They know who is to blame for the recent increase in smallboat crossings and it aint Labour.
