It’s been a while I posted here. I wanted to share that I have a GRE voucher I’d like to gift someone. Reach out and let me know why I should give it to you and it’s all yours. Good luck

I'm interested pls. Want to apply for PhD but with the burden of WES and the likelihood of applying 3 schools, I will really appreciate that voucher. Thanks

Hi Guys, Please I need your opinions and suggestions. Do you think it would be beneficial to have my Dad's company sponsor me to study abroad with the intention of learning skills and returning to take up a higher paying role? or would that be considered a red flag to the VOs because it is my Dad's comapny?

Thank you so much for your help!

I sent you a PM but in case you skip it. I really do need this GRE voucher to boost my chances of getting admission as I graduated with a marginal third class. I believe with the GRE and a WES evaluation I will be able to boost my chances albeit I do not have the resources to do both at the moment. Thanks in anticipation.
If u graduate witha third class then u are not the ideal candidate because u will end up wasting the voucher with a poor score.

Wow. Just wow. Why are you people like this for Gods sake? So because he/she graduated with a third class they can’t pass GRE? What sort of reasoning is this?!

Do you know what circumstances led to the 3rd class? Y’all just open mouth. Smdh

Lol, I expected something like this. Graduating with a 3rd class doesn’t mean I’m not sound. Like I said, it was a marginal 3rd class. And why do you think I or any other person doesn’t need a shot at redemption? Mind you GRE is not a school examination but an aptitude exam. Haven’t you even seen 3rd class graduates going out there and they do better than what they did here? Let him decide on who he wants to give the voucher anyway.

My post is not to deride you or any 3rd class graduate, everyone deserves a second chance and many things could have lead to ur 3rd class (I know a friend who dropped out due to finance issues). That said, the voucher is just one, let him give it to anyone with a scholarstic profile but lacks the required funds for GRE, that way everyone will be certain the voucher will be put to good use. As for you, ur 3rd class could be a result of ur poor studying skills and also because u did not pay for the GRE u may end up bottling it for the same reason that made u end up with a 3rd class. Life is hard its just the bitter truth and that is why scholarship bodies look out for some scholarstic profile before awarding scholarships because they know every failure will have an excuse for their failure, so opportunities like this are not meant for people like u, truth is bitter.

I also know someone who graduated with a third class, simply because she was very beautiful. She was the target of every lecturer in her department and beyond and was victimized because she refused to give it up for marks or anything in the world at the time. A couple of others had poor scores again, because they weren't privy to the existing underground connects/agents recruiting clients for sorting lecturers. Those are bitter truths too. The person seeking to gift the voucher is not a scholarship board and just wanted to know why anyone would need it. It was really tacky to have stood on your little soap box to vet and rule out who was deserving and who wasn't. Especially as the offer wasn't yours to give. His GPA upgrade might even be a WES evaluation away, for all you know.

Thanks for your wise words!

I wrote a piece some time ago on the need for us not to equate intelligence with test scores. The Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka is a classical example.

Right?! It irks me when people just talk without putting a thought to their words!

I graduated with a third class due to several reasons. I did GRE and scored 306, TOEFL 106 and evaluated my transcript with WES. I got a graduate assistantship my second semester in the US, finished that masters with a 3.46/4.0 GPA (STEM course). Went back for my second masters after a few years and graduated with a 4.0/4.0 GPA. I’m currently doing my PhD in Computer and Information Science while also working full time

If I had met people like that one early in my pursuit, I’ll still be in square one. Because you graduated with a first class or second class upper gives you zero rights to deride others.

Humble yourself before life does it for you. It doesn’t cost a cent to watch your words, measure it carefully and treat fellow humans with respect. Don’t hide under the guise of anonymity of the internet to perpetuate unkindness.

He's simple-minded, is all. On this very nairaland, someone has reported his GPA as a 3.0/4 after conversion with WES from a 2.3/5, yes. So while some people with above a 3.0 probably thought they had it better, they were being evaluated to a 2.9/4...making the dude with a 2.3 laugh last.

Again, aren't people steadily getting direct fully funded PhD admits, with our Nigeria's definition of a third class? Does he even know how the last 60 credit hours thing works?

Even for applications to the scholarship bodies he yapped about...his GPA might be higher than the skies, but someone with a spectacular writing technique would bag that scholarship with their essay...then he'd be left to carry his GPA on his head.

He's simple minded, like I said.

Sorry for the delay... Get your stuffs together and reapply. You might want to polish your reasons for the program and school, and what your dad do.

Even me, I screamed and laughed at the 1,000 workers. Maybe you didn't lie, the description you gave about what your dad do doesn't warrant such.

He might think he had done me a disservice but he has actually motivated me. I do not even need a voucher to prove my worth. I wonder why I put myself out here with asking to be considered for the voucher. In another news, I just finished another degree in this same Nigeria although another university and I’m at the verge of making a first class this time.

Hi guys,
Went through the Sevis Fee payment for a friend and tried using Western union quick Pay.
It's meant to be on the Pay bill, but for some reason is not.
Thus it's to be paid in any western union location in USA physically.
Just tell them to search for SEVIS FEE on Pay bill if they don't know of it.

Just an Update.

Anyone can clear it further.

While GPA might be directly linked to GRE performance, there are other factors too that could count not limited to why s/he had a 3rd class, his/her level of preparation for the GRE amongst others. It is best you let the one who owns the voucher decide if he is the one who gets the voucher.

Remember that there are thousands of colleges in the US, so it’s not easy to list schools. If someone recommends Havard, MIT, Uni penn and Vanderbilt, would you apply to them? grin
Most of the schools in the US don’t require WES.
So, saying your intended course of study, the range where your GPA falls, whether you want to take standardized exams etc will help guide anyone who wants to recommend schools to you.
Btw, most schools that don’t require WES still accept it if you have it.
Some people deliberately do WES evaluation because their schools in Naija don’t give them a copy of their transcript. Those schools want you to keep applying for transcript for each grad school application. The school sends the transcript directly to the grad school. So to bypass that, people apply for WES evaluation and WES sends them a copy, and they can use that copy to apply to ANY school.

Most of the Schools that require WES are in the south: Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee etc.
Most Hostorically Black Colleges and Universities(HBCU) also require WES.

Thanks for the detailed explanation

Sorry for the denial. Your answers were just too simplistic. I think your inability to explain your father’s occupation played a major role here. There are certain parts you must explain exhaustively. Sponsorship and funding is one.

And you might wanna rephrase your reason for choosing the course, every country has a problem with crime (except Iceland 😁) so your reason for choosing the course is not that spectacular.

There is also the Pay4me app which you can use to pay your SEVIS fee in local currency like naira. The transaction is seamless and easy and you do not need to be in the USA to pay it. Check out more about Pay4Me on the google play store or App store for iOS devices
