Geologists doesn't know anything about drilling sir, they can only tell you stories about topography of locations but when the main drilling starts 70% times they are always wrong,I'm telling you as an Driller/Engineer.. I drill Water boreholes in all the South East and South South terrains and states..You made a mistake to drill 65m that the geologist told you,you would have gone to 120 or 130 for Ebonyi state that's where you would have gotten pure water.. Contact me if you want a lasting solution..email me.. chidionwo@gmail.com

I advise you open a small garden in your house and use the first 20 minutes of pumping the water to water the garden. Nothing should be wasted, please.

The screening might be the problem
serenegroup:
I suspect the well wasn't cased properly; hasty flushing could also be the culprit. Where is your village by the way? Just drop the state only. Prepare to 'flush' with chemicals; improvement may be seen. If not, reline the well.

What are you saying man? You re in a different terrain. Different lithologies too. The geologist did nothing wrong. The screening might be the issue and moreover the water will be clean after a while

Hello all,

Please I drilled a new borehole for my village house.

According to the geologist who did the survey, we'd get water at 65 meters. So I paid him to bring drillers to drill 65m well.

After the whole drilling and installation, and flushing of the well, I noticed that each time I pump the water, the well brings out dirty brown water for like 20 minutes before it starts bringing out clean water.

And the next time I pump the water, it repeats the same way. I have contacted the drilling company and they are not saying anything useful.

Please I will appreciate contributions from experienced people on how to navigate this challenge.

Please @mods, or the mod in charge of this section, kindly help me push this to the front page. I really need opinions.

Thanks.
Just continue using it. E go clean one day.

Similar to mine, After pumping for hours and another flushing operation with chemical and all that, I have resign to fate and connected a bleeder (flush discharge) to pump away water for 15 minutes before I turn on the tank tape.

Most people that complain about dirty tanks do have this issue unknowingly because after installing, they were not there when the connection to the tank was completed.

Interesting. How long have you had yours? Also, how deep is your borehole.

Ebonyi state. Any solution, please?
Boss, what was the overall cost of getting this borehole?
Will appreciate your response.

I think nothing else can be done because the depth is not deep enough. Just drill another borehole brother. One stupid borehole driller did for us in Benin, it brings out sand before clean water, just 5-10mins. I would have use my hands to send the man to jail if he was still in Benin. Nigerian workmen are wicked and theives.

I dug it January 2023, the second flushing was February.
We stopped at about 85m, location Uyo

You need another borehole, you will just be wasting money flushing, but the result will remain the same, this is from experience, that hole contains rust water table, the rocks minerals sips into the water when left alone for some time.

It's not a big deal ...did they gravel pack the well with enough half inch granite? If they didn't, then get chemical...get chlorine 1kilo, industrial salt 2 kilo, put it and flush down with water. ..leave it for 2hrs, then flush it till its drinkable...Thank me later

Wow. That's a year already and the issue has not resolved.

Sad. I'm just hoping my case is different. Because I honestly don't have money to drill a new well.

Be using the borehole like that for now. With time, it will clear. Our borehole waw like this initially before it cleared.

Just have a cut out pipe that flushes the water off till its clean, then close the cut out for the water to begin going inside the tank. Be using it like this for now till it clears with time. Don't be hasty.

Drilling alone was 715k @11k per meter.

Pump installation together with rising pipe and labor was around 170k.

Doesn't look like a serious problem?
Do you know the composition of the impurities in the water?
What if they are toxic ?

Compounds in harmful proportion would mix fully with the water and not get suspended on top.
Irrespective of the constituents, they won't do much harm as far as they clear up quickly enough.

Dear Op,I've been drilling boreholes for more than 20years.
You need to conduct a water quality analysis; that's the only way to tell why your water is not clear. I'll also advise you stop making use of the water for now cos there's a chance the discoloration may be caused by harmful substances.
I can help solve your problem whenever I am in the east.
Hello! I need to ask you a borehole water question! How can I get borewater drinkable for a community with no access to drinkable water! We dug a bore that bring out clean water but is not drinkable. In yoruba it's called "olo lenu"
Re: My New Borehole Pumps Out Dirty Water First, Before Clean Water. Help! by Petacephas: 1:07pm On Jan 20
Your drill depth is not up to the required level that's number one because even within the basement complex regions like fct and kaduna, drill depth is more than 65m for a good borehole because you can only get clean and hygienic water from the aquifer. They did a bad job.

Hello! Can I do the same for a well of 190 meters with clean water but not drinkable! It has been left unused for 2years!

65 meters is not very deep to reach clean water for machine drilled borehole and it may take a few weeks or months for the water channels to clear before you can reach clean water.

Also check the water pump capacity. If it is above 0.5 HP for that depth, it could contribute to it.

Re: My New Borehole Pumps Out Dirty Water First, Before Clean Water. Help! by Petacephas: 1:37pm On Jan 20
See, there is no shortcut to the solution. It's just to drill another and this time get a certified geophysicist to do proper electrical sounding in order to get the right spot to drill and let the drill depth be up to 120m. Anything other than this you will just be getting surface water not underground water which you need. Water around that 65m level within sedimentary terrains are already contaminated that's what you are seeing.

ur point was clear. His predicaments is caused by his absence wen d project was done.

Even with d question, since it's not ur area of specialization, u can easily buy into wot u're being told. If u den think u know more dan d contractors, den u do it by urself...

Also, wots d need for employing the services of experts?
He employed people da know d work, possibly from recommendation (people d supposed expert has worked for)...

Even, such case is not a new occurrence. A renouned company has done a deep drill in our church. After some time d water stopped rushing. And dey came back to fix it.
So, it's not a big deal, he just need to call d contractors back to attend to d problem.

Paid 11k per meter.

If it doesn't clear soon, I'll have to arrest the man.
I will suggest you flush again. I will suggest 2 hours at interval.

Please what does flushing involve?

Because the geologist was the one who did the survey. Brought his own drilling company to drill the well, and install the pump.

I was not around on the say he installed the pump but he claimed he flushed it on the same day.

Firstly go for flushing again, if the hole formation is not competent too then go for case down....if it is case down already flushing will solve the issue

More over when the geologist told him there will be water @65m, He should had told him to drill for either 75-80m, there he will be assured of clean waters

Even that depth is okay if the soil is good or water table is high enough. But it will take a while before clean water will start coming out.
