People on this thread keep saying "they don buy market". Only people who don't know the people of the South South say this. Especially the ijaws.

The military don't fuuuck with them. The military only intimidate people in the SW and SE. They don't Bleep with the North and SS.

These guys were ambushed in a creek. SS is filled with creeks that are deadly to outsiders, including the military.

We all saw the way the Nigerian Delta Avengers blew out the brains of the Navy team that went near them a few years ago.

This is a major event that will trigger massive retaliations from the military that will affect every living thing within 10 miles of where that deadly ambush of Nigerian soldiers occurred. I pity the occupants of any villages in that area because they are now on course to witness unbridled brutality when they least expect it.
Daily occurrence in the North. Once it happens in the south, it's to burn the whole community. Nonsense. They should deploy intelligence gathering and smoke out the criminals. Burning houses of innocent civilians in the South of Nigeria should stop.

you re saying this because govt don’t really want to deal with them in full package, but with this, they will be seriously dealt with. I just want airforce personal to randomly bomb that environment till no living things there again, declare the land as free zone

With what I've seen on this thread , there is something really wrong with the average nigerian .

So if they kill soldiers in place in the US, the ideal thing will be for the US military to level the place and kill innocent ones ?.

You people are talking as if the military is one cult group that will do reprisal after their members were killed

This people are supposed to be trained professionals for christ sake, the ideal thing is to carry out investigation and fish out the people who committed the crime . Not going to destroy a whole community

I have no military affiliation but your sentiments are noted nonetheless. For the record, I agree that civilian massacres are war crimes and gross human rights violations BUT when any army loses men during attacks launched against them in a specific geographical area, the Geneva Convention goes in the dustbin and the gloves come off.
It's only in Nigeria that the Nigeria army will kill and rampage villages. It doesn't happen elsewhere

Back in the 1960s American GI infantrymen wiped out entire Vietnamese villages because weapons caches belonging to the Viet Cong enemy were found in those villages, or because enemy food supplies were discovered there. Women, children, and livestock were summarily shot and blown up with grenades as their villages were laid to waste in several of those reprisal raids conducted by the US military. Court martial proceedings were carried out in a few cases where troops ran amok like that, but few convictions were secured.

Far more recently in Myanmar, which was formerly called Burma, government troops supported by helicopter gunships massacred the entire populations of SEVERAL villages in reprisal attacks launched against suspected supporters of rebel forces, with the aftermath following those mass killings photographed copiously and posted online for the world to see, as recently as last year 2023.

Since the dawn of recorded history, every war on every continent has recorded massacres by troops that were either condoned or actively supported by the military high command on BOTH sides of the conflict. Nigeria is therefore not alone in this regard, meaning that it is reasonable to expect that any ambush of Nigerian federal troops that results in casualties WILL lead to reprisals that will be disproportionate in scope and maniacally ruthless in execution.

I don't understand the need for such senseless brutality meted out on our soldiers. If the Urhobo and Ijaw have boundary disagreements, they shouldn't be killing the persons who have come to negotiate on behalf of peace, moreover when such persons are military personnel.
Honestly it's beats my imagination very senseless act, the culprits should be made to face the full weight of the law how can they kill mediators trying to bring peace. It's so barbaric they should hunt them down 👎

Some years back, Al jazeera did a documentary of the killings going on in the north by the NA, they called it massacre, please go and look for the news!!!

Restructure Nigeria, let every state and geopolitical zone have own military in capacity of state national guards, then that will create more cooperation between military and local communities.

How far with the State police bill being debated in the national Assemblies?

But I don't understand. How come some untrained guys will just ambush and kill 22 professional, trained military men, just like that.
Senior officers are even among.

They understand the creeks better than the soldiers. Most of them were born inside those waters. They know every living thing beneath those waters and knows the escape routes.

While civilian casualty is sometimes inevitable, There is never a scenario where it is acceptable for a military to launch attacks on civilians. Attacking civilians is a Nigerian army thing. It isn't something "Any" army does. A targeted and measured response is what sensible armies organise. Killing civilians achieves nothing, as the perpetrators are still largely unaffected

This is totally condemnable. The military should fish out the culprits and serve them same measure they did to those ambushed.

The killing of soldiers is an act of war regardless of whether war has been declared officially. One act of war triggers another, and retribution is in progress right now, with soldiers having set at least one village on fire in the past few hours.
