Allowance was made for expansion . I know this because I used to pass through one of the concrete roads constructed by Dave .

The most important thing is not these tiny cracks but the concrete sinking on its own weight and so far the road is still standing and has not sunk in any of its sections.

Those tiny cracks can be fixed by a three man crew.

You guys are now insulting Dave despite him being the only working governor that has built more roads from scratch in the SE .

Stop all these rubbish.

did you see the rubbish you wrote? sinking under its own weight, you just exposed your ignorance.

You're an idiotic tribalist. I knew exactly where you were going. You even have to also hate the Umahi that has been supporting your useless APC and Nigeria, while working against his region

That shows how much hatred you have for anyone answering an Igbo name, even if he an Umahi, a Hope Uzodimma, or a Joe Igbokwe that is of no use to the Igbos.
And you are a demented fool !!!
Always ready to play d victim and cry. Where in my comment did u see igbo ?? Useless retard

1.Preliminary investigation from the picture reveals expansion as the major cause of the crack, the heat this year is intense, they was no (Joint) provision made for expansion.
2. The underneath soil is expansive clay, which swells due to the rainy season hence the result you are seeing.

Recommendation:
The concrete should be partitioned leaving room for slight Earth movement ( this will prevent crack as a result of expansion of reinforced concrete as a result of extreme temperature and Earth movement)

I support the Lagos Calabar coastal highway. This is a legitimate concern. The press should ask the minister why Nigerians should trust him with such gigantic project when the one he did as governor is already cracking.

The erosion in the SE is eating up the road. Just like Peter Obi's roads in Anambra.

While terrorism, kidnapping, almajiri, illiteracy, child mortality, out of school children, poorest region in Africa etc is headed by north but somehow Peter Obi (that left governor over 10yrs) and Anambra state is your problem.
Shame on you as the vice capital of the country.

Many years ago in secondary schools as a science student we were thought of this expansion when you build bridges or road with concrete. This is a common knowledge in every part of the world. Evil mind will not allow politicians to do the right thing

The problem with some of you is that you are too insultive, can't you pass your message without insult?
For the sake of information:
Longitudinal crack in concrete pavement is caused by the presence of highly plastic clay( expansive) soils as the subgrade material and changes in the moisture content of these soils due to climatic changes.
Ensure you put yourself in order before quoting me Mr Man.

2. The rigid pavement Umahi constructed was reinforced with Y8 rod which is the primary cause of the thermal expansion due to extreme high temperature.

3. Ebonyi falls under the tropical monsoon region which has alternate high temperature and heavy rainfall, considering the underneath soil is plastic clay, what do you think will happen when the clay absorb water?

What is the summary of all these technical language?

Did he do a good job, taking into consideration ALL relevant factors or NOT

Generally, he did a very poor job there. A part from your suggestion, the road is generally not smooth. If I'm going to Ebonyi, immediately I enter those nonsense he constructed, I slow down from 120- 80 . The roads he did are too rough..
I guess the roughness is deliberate in anticipation of the asphalt they will be layed on it. I believe the finishing (wearing course) was meant to be asphalt.
Re: Current State Of Concrete Road Umahi Constructed In Nkalagu, Ebonyi. by MasterTeeUSA: 1:51pm On May 07
First, there are no drainages...
Two, they can easily maintain this by drilling and adding concrete. If this was asphalt, it would be worse.
Third, in Nigeria, we don't have load limit roads. Some of these roads are not meant for heavy duty trucks...he get why. You will need a certain level of depth and different types of reinforcement. That is why certain trucks are banned on certain roads in the West.
Four, maintenance culture...you still have to maintain these roads by inspecting them all the time...something we are not great at. Yes concrete can fail and do fail, but Asphalt is worse than concrete...harder to maintain, you have to remove everything and Bitumen is imported for now. Still they could have coated the top with asphalt, then maintain the asphalt.

Anyways, I would not condemn all of these...I will be curious about the base soils used and the reinforced rods. That would be your issue here..shifting base.

A lot of his concrete roads are failing.

David Umahi act as if he knows too much. This same man constructed concrete runway in Abakaliki airport that is not safe for planes to take-off or land on because of poor grip hence commercial airlines avoided the airport (aside that the airport has no economic value). He wasted 40billion.

While I know that concrete roads are good if they are properly constructed, like the one in gbagada, but Umahi will be forming engineer while he cannot deliver quality roads in his state.

I don't trust the quality of the concrete road that Will be delivered on the coastal road project. Umahi likes substandard and shiny things like China and Hitech construction company is not reputable enough to handle such magnitude of project. The only construction company I can trust to deliver is julius berger.

Umahi is not the one doing Lagos- Calabar coastal roads.

The idea was conceived by Jagaban and Niger Delta governors when Tinubu was the governor of Lagos.

Hi tech is a construction company known for doing quality jobs.
It has done so many jobs for Lagos state government in the past

What you're seeing there is the resulting effect of the failing subbase materials used, this will happens any day irrespective of location if the subbase material did not pass compaction test.

The only Construction company with the best concrete base technology is HiTech. Even Julius Berger doesn't have that technology. You check out Apapa Oshodi Expressway constructed by HiTech which is Concrete base from Apapa to Oworoshoki

Good that this is brought to light. Umahi should say something about the bad nature of the road.

However, I think the difference is that the contractor would be responsible for running and maintaining the road for a particular period of years.

What is the commercial benefits of airports built by these governors. Life becomes more easy to live in this country if you don't have high expectations on social responsibilities of government

I have said it before that airport is the least thing Ebonyi needs but the former governor built an airport in Ebonyi state (one of the poorest state in Nigeria).

And the funny thing is that the airport is more like a restaurant/disco club than an airport. I don't know who enters Abakaliki with a plane (except the governor).

Them suppose investigate Umahi. I heard his companies handled the construction works in Ebonyi state.
