Michael Jordan already gave his answer - and his answer aroused some controversies when ESPN made it public during the allstar weekend... Lebron didn't agree with MJ and Kobe showed Lebron why he still has a long way to go to measure up to the ever vicious black mamba at the allstar game by guarding Lebron and blocking two of his shots...

This is what the GOAT, Michael Jordan, said about the two of them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHadht2uU6w
NEW YORK) -- Hall of Famer Michael Jordan will turn 50 on Sunday and was asked who he thinks is the best player currently in the NBA.

Jordan told NBA TV on Thursday that Los Angeles Lakers forward Kobe Bryant is better than Miami Heat forward Lebron James, despite the fact that James is often compared to Jordan. Still, James only has one NBA Championship. Jordan retired with six championships and five MVP trophies.

"Five beats one every time I look at it," Jordan said of Bryant who has five NBA titles. "And not that (James) won't get five. He may get more than that, but five is bigger than one."

Bryant is a 15-time All-Star and also has one MVP trophy.

Lebron's reply:

James was asked on Thursday before Miami's game against the Thunder about the ongoing debate.

"It doesn't matter to me," James said. "If you take Kobe one and I go second, it doesn't matter. I don't get too involved in what guys say about me... As long as I'm on the floor and I make plays for my teammates, I don't do what I do for other people's approval."

And Kobe had this to say:

“Well I’ve heard about it, obviously. I think the message is winning takes precedent over everything — that’s really the big key for kids coming up. LeBron knows that. I’m sure that’s motivation for him to win as many championships as possible as it is for me to win as many as I can.”

I'll choose Kobe over Lebron everyday of the week - Lebron is more like Magic Johnson... However, he's benefiting from an era of basketball with too many undersized guys... If Kobe were to play in the 80s-90s golden era of basketball - he'd still be as great as he's - probably only second to MJ... However, Lebron wouldn't be that great playing against the likes of: Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Chris Webber, young Kevin Garnett, Patrick Ewing, Shaq, Scottie Pippen, David Robinson etc..

Let the debate begin!!! grin

Personally i would take Kobe all day..

LBJ is talented, but i feel like he's a hyped product of the social media and ESPN..

Today's modern game has greatly evolved where shooters are the all in all there are no more low post players or defenders, that makes breezing past players easier today, like u mentioned, there is no way LBJ would have being the best in the era of Charles Barkley, Dikembe, Olajunwon, Drexler etal.

Mentally, Kobe is king over LBJ, like MJ he's able to get into your head, he takes trivial things personal in the game and it does not surprise me MJ picked him over LBJ.

Like my pal A40 noted on the NBA thread about Kobe still being relevant, competing and guarding the best players in the opposing teams, who are much younger, speaks a lot about Kobe..

LBJ can enjoy the frenzy right now, but i think Uncle Kyrie is coming faster than we imagine, that kid would happen so fast Durant would wonder how it happened!!!

Loool Kyrie wey u reach to born na him you dey call uncle?
Kobe is greater than Lebron I know Lebron is the rave of the moment now but the things Kobe could do with the game on the line! He has that killer instinct which Lebron is still gradually acquiring. Lebron is also fortunate to have started out in a weaker conference! If his Cavs were in the West he probably wouldn't sniff the playoffs where a win % of over .500 doesn't guarantee you playoff basketball
People say Lebron can guard all five positions! This has to be the biggest fallacy in all of basketball. What he is good at is guarding people he has a size or height advantage over

You are actually right as regards the low-post defense and defenders in the league right now! There are so few good ones in the league so much so that most of the good players at that position are old-school guys like Duncan and KG! Chandler is decent so is Noah and Marc Gasol too but the rest are just meh! Dwight relies more on his athleticism and explosiveness than the fundamentals

Jordan Said "Kobe", because Jordan feels deep down inside Lebron is a Bigger threat to His Throne.

Jordan Always the Cerebral Competitor....

Smart Words.

You see, Mike Already knows Kobe can Never Pass Him as the Greatest Player Ever, Kobe's place in History has already been carved and sealed

As a Man who was great, but never quite Mj

Therefor MJ Does not see Kobe as a Threat.....

However Lebron...

Is much more of a threat than Kobe Ever was because Lebron is a Much More Complete Player than Either of them Ever Were.

Lebron's Mind and Psyche is pretty Fragile though, so i doubt he will ever win 6 Championships

If we were to Remove the Brains of Both Athletes, and just go on Raw Physical Athleticism and Skill.....LeBron>Kobe

Unfortunately for Lebron Though, The Game of Basketball is 90% Mental

Lebron All day!! MJ is just jealous. He knows Lebron has the potential of reaching and even exceeding his status. People are talking 5 rings is always better than 1 ring forgetting that LJ had been in Cleveland while Kobe was in All star Lakers. Just 2 seasons in the Heat, he has got a ring already and was even winning MVP while in Cleveland. The Lakers is thrash this season though even with Kobe and Howard.

In essence, I rep for Lebron. Lebron>Kobe

After watching Miami Heat's last few game... I don't even know who'll have the better legacy anymore - the total number of rings and season MVPs might end being the determining factor when it's all said and done... I'm a Kobe Bryant stan, however, LeBron's game has improved a lot this season... His mid-range jumper is better, his shooting percentage is higher, he's the de-facto PG of his team, he's a stud in defensive positions, and he can play any position...

Black Mamba or The King?? - I dunnoooo. grin

How dare you compare MJ to LeBron James?? That's blasphemy!!!! There will NEVER be another MJ!!!

LeBron just developed a jumpshot 4 season ago and he started playing defence after beijing olympics - MJ was 10 times first team defensive player during his career!!! MJ NEVER lost in the NBA finals!!! MJ had 11 consecutive triple doubles during the golden era of basketball!!!

Those guarding LeBron today ain't no Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley, David Robinson, Karl Marlone etc.. Just stop it!!

And the fact that you can actually have the audacity to say...

LeBron could not have been great in the 1990s...because of the Legendary Immortal "Defenders" Like Charles Barkley and Clyde Drexler......

This guy needs his Nairaland Account Banned. Just for uttering such insolence

Of course lebron lebron is the most complete player in the history of the nba and he plays virtually all positions with ease because he has only one ring is like saying because henry never won world footballer of the year he's not one of the greatest players in history. His size makes all what he does incredible and leave jordan he's just jealous
