You are simply getting approximately 3% per annun on your savings account. When you consider the current inflation rate at about 9.5%, you have a negative return of about 6.5% per annun. Meaning a loss (net) of value of about N14,000 per month on your N2.6M.

Put this fund/amount in a fixed deposit account or get treasury bills for higher returns of about 12% per annun. Though marginal, it is better (above the inflation rate), also liquid (though not liquid as a savings account) and offers the same security (safety) of your funds. Just ask your bankers/account officer.

If you've got a million naira and want to look for the best way to make money with it passively, just go for a fixed deposit account. You should also know that not all banks in Nigeria offer the same rate on fixed deposit. For someone with up to a million naira or more, invest in high paying banks. As at that date, FCMB, Stanbic and Diamond all offered double digit interest rates and for N1m, you could be making about N8000 per month and in a year, around N100,000. Not much but ok for passive investment.
