barackohandso: Good! As relative as the word might mean in a given context, what criterion are you using as your basis for this comparison, trophies? Cos ferdinand has got a whole lot of them. At his age and current form, Boateng will do better, but not until. If Boateng retires today, do you A40 consider him a bayern legend? Same goes for Rio. Haba! Give honor na

Performance in big games is what distinguish average players from great ones. Rio when the stakes get high becomes pure trash.

Before Boateng became a pro I've always said Ferdinand is rubbish just a product of the British hype machine. Scholes one of the real talented players from England is actually the one not insanely hyped

Ask the average epl fan they would be talking about Lampard and Gerrard when Scholes is the real don. Which shows many don't know football

Clearly you have something against Rio

In the last decade, the closest defender to Rio is Nesta. Vidic is similar to Terry and Campbell; although very good but he was raped regualrly by Torres when Torres was at Liverpool. Rio, in my opinion, was the complete defender. The issue many have with Rio is that he defends with ease. The best defenders eliminate goal scoring threats well before relying on last ditch tackles. I will never forget how Rio caught up with Aghahowa and eased him off the ball before turning and passing the ball. gra gra defenders would have just cleared Aghohowa beyond the line.

At club level there is nothing Rio has won that Boa-TANK has not won. At International level the gulf gets even wider! When we add Boa-TANK's ability to rise up to the challenge in big games you can see that it is a mismatch comparing him to amugbo

If a player that helped his club win the UCL and his country win a World Cup is not a legend then who is a legend? Chale its not till you play for 1000 years at a club before you become a legend. Obviously at Bayern you need more than a few league titles to call yourself a legend but for a 25 year old Boateng's achievements no be sere kambia

Football is a team sport. So there are times when great players don't get to win and useless players get to win. Djimi Traore has a ECL medal while Ronaldo has none. Boateng, whom I like, has won more global titles than Rio but that doesn't make Boateng better than Rio.

But according to your logic, lampard and Gerrard are miles ahead of scholes since they are more decorated, even in Europe undecided

Your obsession with the unnecessary criticism of the EPl and English players appears to be confusing you yourself!

Who are these useless players? These things even out at the end of the day. Djimi Traore won a CL medal and vanished from the face of the earth the next season.

Ronaldo De Lima scored over 60 goals for his country was the World Cup all-time highest scorer till recently and also has a World Cup and Golden Ball to his name. I think your comparison is a stretch

Boa-TANK is better than Rio he has proven this for club and country already! Forget the old cliche and urban legend the English press and fans stay trying to gas themselves and players. They are painfully average and this has been exposed too many times before in International football

Again football is a team sport. Rio has done it for club and country as well but Germany is a much better footballing nation than England and as such, Boateng will win more national trophies than Rio. Forget about trophies for now; Rio and Boateng are not mates. You are a Bayern supporter and probably biased. Apart from Bayern fans, Boateng is not heralded as one of the best defenders in the world; Rio was during his prime.

Ferdinand to Nesta? That's the kind of hype and comparison that makes England remain trophy less for like half a century.

In comparison to Italian defenders Ferdinand would rank with Mark Iuliano and Birindelli. A 17yr old Nesta sodomized Paul Gascoigne so bad in training that he fled Italy.

No defender in the history of English football can hold a candle to Nesta. As good as I think Boateng is, I won't compare him to Nesta.

In the last twenty years Maldini Nesta Sammer Kohler Canavaro are my top ranked defenders.

Ferdinand at best would be in tier 4

Forget your beef with England or its press for a second. England hyping its players doesn't mean England has not produced great footballers. I don't disagree with your list of great defenders but your anti-England bias makes you hate everything English.

Maybe because Bayern fans have a better view of the game than most epl fans who don't see anything else aside their mediocre English league.

On this forum insane comparison have been made by epl fans and even last world cup Andy Gray an English journalist was telling us only 2 German players would make the English team, these are people who form the opinions of most epl fans.

Here we've seen ppl tell us Rooney is better than Muller, Joe Cole is better than schweinsteiger, comparing Ashley Cole and evra to Phillip Lahm. Less than a week ago someone quoted a post that Joe Hart is better than Neuer and cleverly is better than Reus abd Gotze.

When I tell you Ferdinand is garbage and at his best was never as good as Boateng you can take it to the bank

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra will officially be confirmed as a new Juventus player on Monday after reportedly agreeing a two-year contract with the Serie A side.

According to Italian publication Gazetta dello Sport, Evra agreed personal terms with Juventus after the Italian champions and United finalised a deal.

Gazzetta also say a financial offer to Vidal from Manchester United of around €6m a year would likely be unmatchable by Juventus and therefore the club would sit down for sale talks. The price now put at a reasonable sounding €45m, which is around £35m.

Comments from Vidal have pushed the transfer rumour along nicely. He has had repeated chances to kill the story dead and has done quite the opposite.

Juventus boss Beppe Marotta last week also left the door open. Marotta made it clear that Vidal's future was all down to his own choices, that it was the footballer who would decide where he played. Marotta, just like Vidal, had the chance to kill the rumour dead and he didn't take it.

Alternatively, Juventus may be genuinely trying to entice Manchester United into making a bid.

Ed Woodward just give an interview on MUTV and here are a few of his quotes:

"Manchester United is not only the biggest Football club, it's the biggest sports club in the world. I get to watch Manchester United every single week, that's the best part of my job.

"I want us to strive to win, I want the best players in the world to be joining United not clubs in Spain, I'm prepared"

"No question United can attract the A lister players. Every fan wants a transfer, I get that, reality is there is lots of media speculation."

"We're moving forward on some of our targets. Our financial strength allows us to do things in the transfer market that other clubs cannot do. There is no fixed budget, funds are available.

"The reality is there will be a number of players who will be leaving.

"I've been working with Louis with regard to targets and we’re continuing to move forward on some of those targets. There's a lot of work going on behind the scenes, so watch this space!"

At what tournament did Rio do it for country? By all means pa mi lerin.

That Germany is a much better footballing nation is besides the point but inadvertently proves all I have been saying all along that EPL and its products are overhyped and overrated! Its not enough to hold pre-conceived notions when evidence and events keeps proving the contrary. Trophies matter that is why competitions are held and it is from performances in these tournaments that form opinion about who is hot and who is not

I have lost count of overhyped EPL players who were heralded as the best in the World not in this life was Ferdinand World class. Till lately EPL fans and analysts in general would tell you Evra and Ashley Cole are better than Lahm and only the enlightened few would dare challenge such notion this is part of what we are saying. The way 'world class' gets loosely thrown around you begin to wonder if the meaning is not lost in the crowd

EPL Insider: Van Gaal sets up Manchester United spy network

The Dutchman has already stamped his mark in Manchester with new pitches and floodlights set to be installed but has gone one further by setting up a system of cameras.

Louis van Gaal will be keeping a close eye on his Manchester United players this summer - a very close eye.

The Dutchman had a team of technicians from his homeland dispatched to the club's Carrington training centre last week to install surveillance cameras around the training pitches.

There will be nowhere to hide for the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, with the cameras powerful enough to zoom right into the players' faces, making it possible to check for signs of fatigue.

Each camera is linked up to a nerve centre portakabin complete with several screens and the footage will be pored over by Van Gaal and his team of coaches.

The new Red Devils boss has already looked to stamp his authority on Carrington, having publicly complained about its vulnerability to the Manchester winds.

He was also dismayed to learn that the playing surfaces do not match the one used at Old Trafford and asked for changes to be made, at a cost of £3 million.

Beds are to be installed so that the club's stars will be able to sleep off their gruelling morning training sessions before going again in the afternoon - under floodlights, which are also to be erected as part of Van Gaal's overhaul.

di maria to p$g virtually is a done deal.

All they need to do is manoeuvre their way around ffp rules sort of holding them back.

Don't think it's a enough reason to spend money on him.

Midfielders and defenders(2 minimum) are more pressing issues and maybe a winger.

Do you know Canavaro led his National team to win the World cup even in the absence of his defensive partner Nesta conceding 2 goals in the tournament 1 of the goals being a Zidane penalty. And he was the only defender to win WPOTY in a long time.

Which of these can you say about Ferdinand?
