I met a guy today, and in the course of our discussion we delve into the aspect of parents salaries, then I object his opinion, which he stressed that kids are entitled to know what their fathers and mothers take home is.
Well, nairalanders, is that really so? Do you know what your father salary really like? What are the benefit in knowing? What are the disadvantages?

I don't know if kids are entitled to know their parent salaries but I know my father's salary.

We always knew how much money our parents have. We even knew how they spend and invest it. This is how our parents taught us to handle finances and the value of money.

Now as an adult, I remember what my parents did in some situations and this is the best advice I can get, their experience. I wish I would save more money. My parents were more economical but I am ok and still learning.

No I don't ask. I know his salary doesn't mean I mean I have right over it and moreover, we understand ourselves and if dad says he can't meet up with my need for a particular time I will understand because I know him very well. He makes sure we don't lack. Even as big as I am, I'm a graduate yet he still spends on me.

I know how much he earns monthly, I know how he spends it too so when he says I can't do this I will understand and trust me, I know where his salary goes to.

Very well.. I see their pay slips often, even bank statements. .. no biggie

I have access to ATMs and the respective pin numbers. Anytime I'm home, I always help my parents with withdrawals, transfers, etc. I used to be my dad's account officer.

My opinion...
Children should have an idea of what their parents earn. Not just salaries,but profits also if they have private establishments. My dad and i discuss bussiness sometimes,even with my siblins. We talk about shares he buys,even those owning him.
I chip in my lil advice attimes too.

It helps us understand and curtail our expenses when things aint that rosy.

Only knew my dad's salary 2 years before he retired, never knew mum's own before she retired too. I knew it was enough for the family of 6.

I know how much my mum earns because she shows us alert when Fashola pays.
