Jokes I presume you're from the States.

It's cute watching you remind Nigerians that it's their Independence Day. This is more like an African reminding an European that's usually cold in Russia cheesy grin

Lacer.... haven't you heard - assumptions are like elbows, everyone has more than one??

Hmmmm.... I stand corrected undecided but all in all meant no harm in my well wishes. For some reason, you seem to be the only one to have a problem with me saying "Nigerian" Independence Day. Yea, humans have a tendency to remind each other of the obvious grin ..... BTW, couldn't come up with a better example for a country representing Europe than Russia? Really? cheesy cheesy

Happy first weekend of the month smiley

Jokes you failed to spot the sarcasm in my post.

I'm not in anyway having a problem with your amiable gesture/compliment, I'm only wowed that it's coming from someone who's living miles miles away from Africa and not even a Nigerian - It's an applaudible feat cheesy

The European - Russia analogy still stands. You don't have an Idea how many Europeans who visit that Northern Eastern side of the continent. Could be an easy escape route into Asia - that's for my European brothers who can't afford a Passport n' a Visa grin cheesy cheesy

Happy weekend to you too.

Hi... yes, I noticed the sarcasm, but still took it to heart because I was surprised. I apologize if I seemed to overreact undecided. Thanks for your explanation grin grin

I wish more people celebrated each others' happiness and special occasions. It would make our world a better place smiley. I've met people from various places including from African countries and enjoyed their culture, respectfulness, hospitality, and kind friendships. Foreigners from various parts of the world seem to be drawn to each other in the Western world. Maybe because we still appreciate tradition.

Ohh, now I see what you mean about the Russia analogy. Do they not know how to read a map? Basic education would go a long way wink grin.... I always found it funny how mankind keeps migrating around, always looking for greener grass.

Hope your weekend went well. Have a splendid week cheesy

My weekend went well, thanks for asking dear.

I'd love to ask this, Of all the people with diverging cultures you've come across, which of them stole your attention? Did you consider any of those cultures to be out of this world? The word bizzare surely comes to mind cheesy

Personally, I see no wrong in migrating. Once in a while, one has to change terrain, try to connect with the world out there, seek for a fresh challenge and try to get some healthy exposure to the real world.

Now pretty tell me, have you been to Africa? wink

Nice... glad the weekend went well.

As for which culture I found most shocking, I'd say Italians (especially Neopolitans). I expected Italy to be well developed being a Western country and all. I learned that it's very dirty, corrupt, funny, and beautiful all in one. I was shocked by some of the people's lack of education (eg. Airplanes are magic). Their laws and rules are bizarre but their customs are very hospitable. Racism and prejudice is very sad, bad and shocking there too. I normally try see the good and the bad undecided embarassed grin

Seems like you've encountered people from different places. So, which culture was the most bizarre for you?

Yea, I agree, there is nothing wrong with migration. From anthropological standpoint, it is necessary to keep blending the gene-pool for evolution's sake. Also, the more cultures interact and blend the better we would understand each other and would have a more diverse outlook. Life forced me to migrate since childhood but am glad I was able to explore life in various cultures. No, I have never been to the African continent and would love to go. It would be a dream come true. I love being among locals and exploring life among them.

Have you traveled outside your homeland?

Jokes believe me when I say this; I'm enjoying every bit of this conversation cheesy

I don't like Italy, their history is the only thing keeping 'em relevant today, they've not improved in so many areas.

I've been to Belgium but that was a short stint - a month tour actually.

I dunno where to start but I gotta start from somewhere.

Unlike Italy, Belgium is damn neat, infact, cleanliness is a matter of national pride. They take pride in their personal appearance too. They dress well and are concerned with the impression they make on others.

A 620km ride will see you travel France, 167km to Germany then 460km to Netherland, I could be a bit wrong with those calculations though but those are the major European countries they share borders with. Luxembourg too I guess.

They aren't a homogeneous country with one Identity. They've got different cultural communities, and the two main linguistic groups are the; Flemish (Dutch) and the Walloons (French). On some occasions, you find people speaking German and sometimes English. I actually lost touch with English language for 31 days grin grin

For people who don't know eachother well, a brief handshake is the formal way to greet. Once a relationship is developed, three kisses on the cheek may substitute the handshake.

Their cooking was perfect. Cuisines like the french-fried potatoes, brussels waffles, speculaas then the waterzooi (a broth made with chicken, vegetable and cream) all stole my heart. I was also taught that beers meant everything to a Belgian - a culture I had to copy grin cheesy

Jokes I can go on and on, there are many things to write about Belgium.

When it comes to communication, they prefer it to be logical and based on reasons. That idea had a massive influence on my thinking pattern.

Belgians are careful and prudent. You don't have to leave food on your plate - it's rude and wasteful - I think the Japanese also recognizes this tradition. You indicate you have finished eating by laying your knife and folk parallel on your plate. cheesy

They are cultured. I would have loved to see my kids grow up in Belgium but I'm afraid their English would be horrendous, so England it is then.

You can give Africa a thought, I'm ever ready to be your tour guide cheesy

Wow, how interesting about Belgium!! Never been there, but thanks to your description I want to visit even more than before. I have lived in Germany and Austria, which sound similar to Belgium because they are also clean, pristine, interesting, well cultured, beautiful countries whose residents also have a big love for beer smiley. Germans and Austrians are very tactful in how they communicate also and appreciate guests cleaning their plate and setting the fork and knife in diagonal when done as well. It is actually offensive to leave food in one's plate. They are very polite and follow a strict etiquette; must be a Germanic tribe thing wink. Additionally, being hot headed, showing emotions, and being loud is considered rude and obnoxious. There is so much history and a wealth of architecture and art to explore. Definitely no reason for boredom there grin.

Yea, I'm not a big fan of Italians either. Talk about rude and arrogant as a people shocked ... just makes me cringe to think back lipsrsealed .... here's a funny: Neopolitans say that Naples is like a beautiful woman with dirty feet grin grin grin.

So, you live in the UK I gather. How do you like living there?

One day, I will love to visit Africa. Nigeria is #1 on my list grin.
