Hold on to it, do your job with a positive attitude, keep up a friendly demeanor and continue to look for a better placement. Current role is definitely not good for your career development but you need the system for your growth. I wish you success .

Big things they say comes in small packages.

In as much as i do not agree with what i just stated above, life is a funny piece of shiii.

Just wen u think uve hit rock bottom, and u decide to be patient a little, and grass to grace becomes the order of the day.

Bro, if u dont have the patience to deal with that job, which i think if u dont fine tune your mindset will fraustrate u every single morning

Get out of the job after u collect ur salary.

But by the way, for u to leave ur prev job for a job they pay less than 150, it means u earned lesser and ur quite comfortable with ur new pay.

Bro, a job that offers an office assistant that amount?

Ask urself really. What am i more concerned about in my carrer.

A job i act as boss but get the pay of an office assistant?
Or
A job i work as an office assistant and get the salary of some bosses?

If you can convince urself on any of those answers, which i know ur indeepthly want the job that makes u a boss and pays u like a boss.

But forget the thoughts, you are here in the middle of 2,

So decide.

Lol u said well just like every other person has advised. The Inspiration I got here today, gave me a radiant day in the office today. I just have to learn how be a good servant as a quality of a good leader for my remaining days here n if I get the conviction, I can push a little bit further.

Thanks so far.

D pay is nt bad, I tink u shld continue doing this job until u can find another.

Ur pride n ego can't put 140k into ur acct monthly.

Many engineers with better qualifications than urs can't earn up to 50k monthly doing odd jobs lik taxi drivin, primary n sec sch teachin even recharge card hawkin

If u r really good it ll show in ur new role, swallow ur pride n serve

Some engineers ve been at home jobless for d last 10yrs without a job, count urself lucky to ve a job.

Ur problem is dt u care too much abt hw ppl look at u, ur position is temporary n part of ur life story. U ll share this story with ur staff someday wen u become MD in a top coy.

There is nothing better than havin a job dnt resign unless u ve anoda. Ur happiness depends on hw u think n nt wat is happenin to u

Simple situation!!
All you need is wisdom and Perseverance.
Wisdom - is to bring your head low, and find out the skill set of engineers there, cuz engineering degree is not enough for you to land on a plumb engr role.
So identify the needed certifications that puts them ahead such as PDMS, HYSYS, FLARENET, AUTOCAD, SQL, ORACLE etc. And ensure u give yourself timelines to achieve them.

Internal Vacancies would definitely turn up, after the long wait you may end up being most qualified for the job, that is Perseverance.

So endure my Brother, sometimes God might just be preparing you a bigger blessing ahead of you, so wipe the tears, throw away your pride and start enjoying the work you do and the company you work for.

This is the only way to succeed.

Cheers

I just need to comment even though it might sound like no advise, actually I haven't done any job for years, not even a weekly job or month job but being managing business with so much freedom.

I wouldn't advise you to leave your current job, in everything you do in life, exercise patient. you might even end up being the MD of such company. At least exercise patient till a stage that you get familiar with people in your office, even if situation continue, let them know your pain, probably tender official letter and explain reason you wish to move on should in case you want to move.

A Lot of people are out there looking for job, more than thousands engineer like yourself because for every one job vacancy , there are thousands applicant available

Please my people of nairaland, I need your advice on what step to take on this situation.

Please no insults, I just need an advice.
I am an engineer by profession, I worked as a consultant in a company some years back until I got this present job. Truth be told I was happy when I was called for an interview in a much bigger company where I presumed I will make a career. First I remember I submitted my CV to a friend who promised to hook me up with a better job, and sometime this year he called to advice I study for a test but refused to tell me the company n type of test I should prepare for. To cut off the long story, sometime last month, I was called in for an interview for the proposed job, I was elated and took an undermined risk of travelling for the interview. On reaching the office the next day, I was impressed at the company and the level of organisation in the company. I was interviewed, I performed and I was told that I will be briefed when I resume. Waow I already got the job which was what I told myself because of the way I saw how impressed the interviewers looked. Finally I got the job with an offer of below a hundred and forty thousand as gross salary, I later realized that I was employed as an office assistant, me an engineer a formal manager and to grease the elbow, it was stated in my offer letter and I was to serve a dozen of young engineers in my office. I resumed with total equality but realised that I was way below the food chain and the young stars didn't waste time to clear me on that. One of them yesterday even told me I would help him make some deposit at d bank and all that, and even went on to say that it was part of my job description. Now I know I don't have to envy which is non of my business, it's already 14 days into the job and I feel my dignity has been tramped and I may not have a quick rise here. Let me halt here but will share more ordeal I have passed through in this few days if you care.

Please I just need to know what you people think and what you have to advice either for me to get out of this situation or another.
sir you can just stay at this job and be applying for new ones.forget the fact that the other younger engineers are forming boss.with time you will get a new and better job but abandoning this one is not the right thing to do

Hhmmmm, but in the first place, you should have asked what they intend employing you as. Secondly, you are in, and seems your pay is less what you earn in your previous place. Just consider yourself a job seeker while you carry the cross in the mean time. And ensure be agressive in applying to other places for jobs with clearly stated description. Above all, frequently pray to God to lead you out of the place. It is well with you.

Here i am frustrated that as an engineer i am still at home watching BBA hotshots without even securing a teaching offer...in lagos
infact i resolved to even volunteer for free only if i can leave my house and gain some experience in the oil and gas industry which is the course i studied

And i read this and for a moment i paused to ask myself if i really want this kind of offer.
To be candid with you dear,i do not compromise my happiness in anything i do.
The reason is because over time an unhappy, unfulfilled heart will degenerate to depression and that will be catastrophic both to yourself and to those around you.

My views may not be the best, as i write i dont even have 1k in my account but i will tell you this, dont remain in any firm where you are abused in the name of job offer.
Money isnt what you should pursue, self development and self improvement should rank topmost.

It maybe crazy but until you step out you wont get a better offer.

Another route to this is to build relationship with some of the staff and seek avenue to be promoted to your desired department.
This second option will mean that you'll have to forget your degree and focus on serving them and expect a favourable outcome in the end.

Sorry for the frustration...
I hope you take it easy on yourself please.
Your life is worth more than any amount any company can offer.
Preserve your life!

You are probably a young person without commitments. If op has a wife and children or even a flat he is paying rent on, i dont think your advise will help him rara.

Weather the storm for like 3-6 months, save within these periods that can take you for another 3-6 months without a job, pull out and do what engineers are meant to do. In between the storm, grab all knowledge pertaining to Administration because it will definitley come in handy.

You should be fine.

Why not walk up to the owner of the company and discuss it with him, show your greviances and let him know you are capable of what the other engineers are doing.

I can't believe that someone can be 419ed into a job in Nigeria grin
Isn't this how they take young women to Europe with promise of jobs plaiting and braiding hair only for them to find out it is ashawo limited

Smh. Nigerians have got to be the most conceited, sadistic human beings on Earth sha, walahi. One sees how they treat waiters/waitresses, maids, gatemen, subordinates, and anyone they consider 'inferior' or 'less privileged'. . . . it's just a big joke.

God knows I'd slap the audacious ìdiot and walk out on the useless job immediately. If hunger like, make e kill me. I've done something similar during my NYSC primary assignment days. I have 'foolish' pride, and it has helped me so far. I have zero tolerance for rubbish. Life is too short.

I can't advise you to leave the job, since I don't know whether you'll be able to cope without it. However, if to say na me, I for slap that mumu boy (and the company MD sef, if im own too much) and walk out on the damn job. Man go everly survive one way or the other.

Have they paid you any salary yet?
My fear is that you may not even see shishi from the 140K they promised
My candid advice is that you start looking for another job immediately
If you can go and beg to return to your former job, please do,you are better off underpaid with your dignity intact

The longer you stay here, the more they rob you of your self esteem ,they are already turning you to a boi boi
Making bank deposits and buying mineral and ground nuts
After 5 years of engineering school
Tufiakwa
besides nothing good could ever come out from a lie
Even if they offer you an engineering job here, you are better off somewhere else
The place is a scam
I bet you their buildings and bridges will be falling down that's if they are really engineers
This may be a corporate kidnapping or ritual company

How else can they pay a messenger 140k
