Smooyis:I appreciate your level headed response and I concede that all is not well in Nigeria per se. However, to put it frankly, he who watches the weather will never sow seed. With the exception of maybe Germany in 2006, every single senior FIFA or CAF tournament since 2000 has been hosted by countries which have been heavily criticised for not being "ready" to host. Mali in AFCON 2002, Tunisia in AFCON 2004, Egypt in AFCON 2006, Ghana in AFCON 2008, Angola in AFCON 2010, South Africa in WC 2010, Eq Guinea/Gabon in AFCON 2012, Brazil in WC 2014. Projecting the image of your country is not only for when your country is already set up and running, in fact it's even more important when your country is facing challenges. People criticised South Africa for spending billions on the World Cup when large parts of the country don't have access to simple sanitary and electricity facilities. People criticised Brazil for the same reason. People criticised Angola in 2010 for that and for hosting AFCON while a civil war raged on in the north of that country in Cabinda. But whether anyone likes it or not now, those countries all successfully hosted and the sky did not fall down. The heavily-criticised South Africa and Angola were in fact considered to host this AFCON before Nigeria. It is forever down on their record as an achievement. Eq Guinea co-hosted successfully in 2012, now in 2015 they will host individually. Nigeria co-hosted with Ghana in 2000 and till now is yet to host again. What story does that tell? That Nigeria had a head start on Eq Guinea and they have now caught up and overtaken us? Is it that Eq Guinea is in any way a better country than Nigeria? Is it that Eq Guinea has no problem with insecurity? Or is it that they have better developed infrastructure than Nigeria? Or better finances than Nigeria? What exactly is the rational reason why in a straight shootout between a giant like Nigeria and a tiny country like Eq Guinea, the outcome will be a victory for Eq Guinea? No matter how you might want to rationalise this, the fact is that once it became public knowledge that it was a straight choice between Nigeria and Eq Guinea, there is no way Nigeria should have permitted itself to lose face by backing down. In fact it would have been better for Nigeria to rule itself out very early on like South Africa did. Not that we allowed the whole world to see it as Nigeria v Eq Guinea only for Eq Guinea to win. That is rubbish! The sort of naive, short sighted, foolish international relations Nigeria is renowned for. |

rickkid: Nonsense. Imagine the number of Ebola patients that will use the opportunity to fly or travel into Nigeria since we had such a good success rate at treating patients. You want us to go through another "hand sanitizer" frenzy abi. Abeg park well dey watch in 4k ultra hd juh 2 Likes |

jkendy: Rubbish. South africa and ghana did not agree to host too.. I guess they don't belong to africa too.. Rubbish. Can't u read the writing on the wall and see that your countries interest comes first. Lagos was able to curtail the ebola issue. Thanks be to the governor ,health ministry, and medical team..if it happened in borno, kastina, oyo and co. what do u think the case would be by now. Already the country has a fragile border and illegal routes into the country. Now u want to host. Do u think naija can handle the infux. Let me not even talk of boko haram that will be waiting to light up the open ceremony with their own fire works. Then u expect morocco to Host 5 Likes 1 Share |

EbolaParasite:First of all, your handle makes it difficult to take your opinion serious. Secondly, can you please explain how come Ebola patients who want to come to Nigeria will not come now, but will for some reason decide to come during AFCON. Is the desire to cure Ebola present only whole AFCON is on? Or what sense are you making? Anyone who is aware that they have Ebola will aready be symptomatic and very sick. How will they then travel and enter Nigeria undetected? You guys are just repeating senseless hype and noise. |

rickkid: People from those regions will be queried if they come to Nigeria now with higher scrutiny. If we host the AFCON, they have a legitimate reason to come and more people will come. IT WILL BE HARDER TO PREVENT MORE INFECTED people from coming in. Right now, we can isolate, detain, and query them because people coming from that region are really not a lot 1 Like |

rickkid:shut up ......with the current security problems around .....u still think Nigeria was a better option to stand and declare for hosting rights..... election is even @ the corner .....will u be glad when u see the Headline stating that there was a bomb blast during an ongoing football match in a stadium? being the giant of Africa doesn't mean u have to boast for some lil things.....Nigeria's case is worse than Ebola.....when it's our turn to host....we'll gladly do that.....not in situations like this........ 5 Likes |

edozie04: Do u think Nigeria is in the right frame to host AFCON right now, we just contained Ebola, and we have boko haram on rampage, elections are coming so this would probably get worse. Do u really think its the right time to host such a competition. Use ur head bro. 1 Like |

iamord:African fans historically do not travel anyway. Those that do are those who can afford to, and these types come in through airports and legal land borders. You are obviously not someone who has much knowledge of Nigeria's geography or you wouldn't have mentioned Borno and Katsina as potential entrance points for Ebola. Those places have borders with Chad and Niger which have no Ebola cases and which will not qualify for AFCON anyway, so no one is likely to travel into Nigeria were Nigeria to host. And if Nigeria has porous land borders (which it does), then nothing stops people with Ebola from entering Nigeria, AFCON or not. There is no magic Ebola magnet which becomes active during AFCON. You lot are falling for a cheap trick by Morocco which is using Ebola as a red herring to mask its financial situation which makes hosting AFCON unviable. |
